I guess Mark Penn is right. They completely blunted Obama’s momentum.

All,

Since this blog has become devoted to the primary campaign, specifically the Democratic version of same, I think it’s time for another return to the class room and PolySci 101. I sure wish someone who actually KNEW this stuff inside and out would chime in, but it’s so Byzantine, perhaps it’s not possible for any one person to know.

I think we should start with some basics upon which we can agree and work forwards. No where in the U.S. Constitution does it say the ‘people’ choose the President of the U.S. The wise ‘Founding Fathers’ didn’t trust us. Perhaps they’re right. Extending, no where does it say anything about choosing candidates for the office of president. (All of this is a dame good argument for NOT literally interpreting the Constitution, but that for another time.)

The choice of candidates is performed by entities referred to as parties, also not mentioned in the Constitution, and I suspect they have charters, but I do NOT suspect they are in any way regulated. That would seem to fly in the face of the ‘liberty’ precept of the Constitution and besides, they’re much too powerful to ever allow that to happen. So, they are non-government entities whose main (sole?) purpose is the selection of people to receive funds and support in their quest for office, culminating in the highest office of the land.

Uh Oh, I misspoke. Their MAIN purpose is to retain power and control over the process and, by default, the operation of the government. I suppose somewhere on their list of ‘things to do’ you will find ‘represent the members of the party,’ but you’ll probably have to look for it.

I bring this all up because it would appear that neither BHO nor HRC will have the requisite number of delegates for nomination come convention time. As such, the convention will decide who will be the Democratic nominee. And the Democratic Party has but one goal and that is to win the election and will choose the candidate THEY think has the best chance to win.

I’m not saying the party will choose HRC over BHO but I want to raise that distinct possibility and guess what, it’s THEIR right ‘cause it’s THEIR party and THEY make up the rules. I don’t say this in condemnation although I assure you I think the whole business stinks to the high heavens, rather to point out it WON’T be HRC to orchestrates the business, any more than it would be BHO if he should be chosen. I say this because I would like all you Hillary-Haters to take a break if that happens. I’m sure if BHO is chosen, you won’t be screaming fraud and cheat, so it cuts both ways.

You know, while we’re repealing the 22nd Amendment, we might want to toss in a new one to eliminate the electoral college, create oversight of the parties (eliminating caucuses, for example) and manage financing. Just a thought. Or we could ignore it ‘cause it’s too big and complicated and we couldn’t do anything about it anyway.
