Proud To Be An American

(Jed Clampett)

Don’t blame america so much. We are good at heart and the people that come here understand that. That is why we haven’t had lots of attacks within our borders even though we have a huge imigrant population that understand the evils american corporations have visited upon them. The problem is not whether it is americans doing it but rather those particular INDIVIDUALS that forced us into these positions. The perfect team has visited evil upon this earth and sold it as resistance to oppression and defense from terrorists that hate our way of life.
whatever their stated aims may be, one can see from their actions that they both lie to their constituencies and are bringing them down the rosy path. Both constituencies are blinded by charisma and their ‘forced appeal’, if you don’t support them you are either unpatriotic or an infidel and once you are labled in that way, you can become a target.
Their strenghts? blind patriotism regarless of how the true patriotic ideals have been misrepresented or blind following of a religious leader regarless of how contrary to the teachins of your religion his tactics may be. You see, people aren’t inherently evil, they merely become that way when they start accepting little evils for the sake of expediency and soon degenerate to a totally polluted soul. We must learn to recognize those that have been polluted, and if they are unwilling to atone, they must be isolated from the rest of society.

Jed,

Not sure if it’s possible to argue with your premise, but no matter, it missed my point. My feeble attempt at sarcasm is aimed that those ‘patriots’ who mindlessly accede to whatever whims our fearless leaders may display. I don’t expect to see too many of them visiting this website.

The industrial revolution followed closely by the technological revolution is hard on the psyche of many (all?). The individual loses distinction within the collective mass Many (all?) of us have not evolved fast enough to cope, myself included. It was not THAT long ago that we were a nation of farmers and craftsmen, dependent on our productive skills and industry for value. What now? How many of the 300 mil Americans actually get the psyche reinforcement of producing something? Most (all?) of us are simply a cog within a large machine. We have no say in the machine’s development and/or intent. We are merely ‘things.’

So, many (all?) look elsewhere for identity and value: Rooting for their ‘team.’ WE’RE NUMBER ONE!! We no longer participate, we identify. And we DON’T identify with losers. And since we have only one country, THAT country can’t be a loser. If it’s the most powerful country in the world, then it must be ‘good.’ (God’s will?)

The irony is that I was taught, as I expect were most, that it’s okay to feel pride, only for good deeds however, but one doesn’t publicize that pride. It goeth before a fall. Well, guess what, we took that fall, but won’t admit it.

I think no one should be allowed to graduate from high school until they’ve read AND understood “Catch-22.” Recognizing, of course, that the message would be lost on most. (Pride get in the way?)

I think you understand what I’ve alluded to the main problem is. As you can imagine it is much bigger than we are even willing to conceive, much less accept as real. However we must recognize the threat for what it is and work united now or we will pay a very heavy price and so will our home.
The harvest has occurred twice before, the original americans have it recorded in their history. Question is, do you have fealty to your homeworld or to an illusion of a distant perfect world where everything gold, silk, and prosperity?

The lack or pride in production of americans comes from the realization that the fruits of our labor are going to promote the wellbeing of a chosen few rather than the majority. Since we choose to ignore that…. or internalize it to a great degree, it created the psychological tension that allows the deception, self-deception, to take place. We fail to recognize our true power and have allowed our media to be used to diseminate that deception and create a feeling of uncaring, not only for ourselves, our nation, and ultimately our world.

In response to the final question of Kyle’s excellent piece… “You work hard to build a house, and somebody blows up your house. Will they accept Sunnis back to Shiite areas and Shiites back to Sunni areas? If someone kills your brother, can you forget his killer?” … I think it’s evident that the principal tenets of all earth’s religions say that you must!!

Great story. Wish the rest of the MSM (of which R.S. is definitely a part of) would challenge the success of the surge. I’d like to see a R.S. piece title: “The Myth That Democrats Are Anti-War And Pro-Liberty”.

Shane, why don’t you write the lead and let the others run with it?

Shane must have missed the recent R.S./Taibbi piece entitled “The Chicken Doves,” detailing the failure of Dem leadership to act on the war. Wish granted.

Coach | 2/25/2008, 12:13 pm EST

Shane, the problem isn’t that Democrats are fraudulent anti-war, pro liberty groups. The problem is this: Democrats compromise, republicans don’t. Period. End of story. That is one of the major problems with our political system.
That, and lobbying, and superdelegates, and the electoral college, and term limits, and no-bid contracts to name a few.

Whats wrong with these “patriotic” comments, the writer is not being political, he is simply saying that our economy is Fu…. Up because we are paying millions to Iraqi children so they can fight George W. Bush war.

read the piece again, you missed the point.
