Mama Bear Clinton
Out for Shuster Blood

2/9/08, 9:00 pm EST

OK, David Shuster’s “pimped out” comment, if taken literally, was out of line.

And a temporary suspension and an apology are certainly appropriate.

But c’mon.

Chelsea Clinton is not 13 anymore. She’s a couple weeks shy of her 28th birthday. She’s has a masters from Oxford and has a fat career at a hedge fund.

Nobody needs to throw this young woman a pity party. Sure. She was picked on cruelly as a child growing up in the public eye. But she’s her own woman now. Her role on the campaign trail is certainly open for debate.

OK. Schuster did so tastelessly. But does Chelsea really need mama bear coming to her rescue, demanding that an [otherwise] excellent journalist be fired?

Gimme a break.

[Note: I tried to post Shuster's apology video and it sent the site all screwy. I'm having to repost this again, and we unfortunately lost 5 comments. Sorry.]

if you come from a perfect little right wing christian/isolationist feminist family with a father who is a momma’s boy (like i so was until my mother died when i was 10) then the clinton’s are the team for you – but if you don’t…

the problem is; you want women to be leaders in government, but when they do become leaders, they seem to overcompensate by either locking up all men and/or making them live out in the woods to make them pay for thousands of years of oppression – not good…

Two things….good job on Heath Ledger..
You really need to write an article about Mama Bear Clinton…Chelsea is out there campaigning for her Mama, so if she cannot take the heat get out of the oven. This is just another example of why Hillary should not be president, she has 35 years experience in mothering and being a wife not politics. People really need to see the truth before the next election

Oh last thing;

Brit Spears….is there a valid reason for this young lady to be out strolling around in public? This is a timebomb waiting to blow

Yes, Chelsea is a grown woman. And yes, politics can a rough business. But you can’t criticize Hillary for overreacting to an on-air insult of a close family member. He was wrong. She reacted. He apologized. Let’s move on.

Tim,

Sexism, not to mention hypocrisy, abounds. When HST threatened to ‘poke’ a reporter in the nose ’cause he trashed his daughter, he was praised. This guy implies that Chelsea’s a whore and her parents pimps and then the guy doesn’t apologize.

It’s not Chelsea’s job to interact with the press so a) she doesn’t talk to the guy and b) doesn’t publicly respond. So it’s left to her parents. HRC is the head of the show so she’s the one to speak out. And calling for someone’s termination is SO extreme?

I’m pretty sure if someone trashes your daughter, you’ll come out swinging. And everyone will approve. “an [otherwise] excellent journalist” That smacks of patronizing. According to whom?

Its obvious that many Clinton supporters and Democrat elements in the media that support her (like, say, Rolling Stone) are trying to save Shuster’s job. For some reason, the “left” consider this sniveling, nasally, whiny little stick insect to be some sort of a “media icon” for them. Of course, the vast majority of those people who blindly praise him as a liberal’s best friend are blissfully unaware that Shuster worked at Fox News for over 6 years. Do you think a flaming liberal could pull that one off (at least anyone besides their loyal poster boy Alan Colmes)?

Shuster didnt pull it off, he is simply the type of pundit who puts his sails to whatever is the prevailing wind of public sentiment at the time and rides it shamelessy (just like his leering buddy, Chris Matthews). Current winds say Hillary is falling in popularity and Obama is rising, so the Felix Unger of news reporters figured his tasteless comment would be accepted by the majority with a knowing smirk. If it had been stated by anyone but an allegedly “liberal” media source, they would be calling for his immediate firing.

Just another sexist remark. Check out Chris Matthews, Tucker Carlson and their sexist remarks over the years. Equality is not here yet for Afro-Americans, women and children.

12 years from now when its Chelseas turn to represent the dynasty Shell hear a lot worse.

You sidestepped the real issue. Every other candidate has their family out on the campaign trail, and yet there’s something “weird” about it when Clinton does it? The double standard here is so widely in use, you didn’t even notice it.
