Rolling Stone political correspondent Matt Taibbi appeared on HBO’s Real Time With Bill Maher on Friday night to discuss how the media has been covering primary season. This is the first of many appearances for Taibbi, who will serve as a frequent contributor to Maher’s program, which airs every Friday night at 11 PM on HBO.

you guys really need to fix the video player… it refuses to stop skipping and it’s not an issue of buffering… it skips whether i wait 1 second or if i wait 10 minutes. terrible quality on this and travers’ reviews lately, which is sad because i think you guys typically have a good video player.

awesome. I, for one, would like to see more Matt Taibbi on TV.

You know, For some reason, I thought Matt would have had longer hair.

Matt-
Some points were raised about the writers strike and crossing the picket lines. Being a Union guy myself, I don’t like the idea of crossing picket lines. However, if it gets you out there to a national audience saying what needs to be said then I’m all for it. What are your thoughts on the subject?

It seems that the reason hinted at for defection against 1st tier candidates is spite towards media. That is, people don’t like being told who to vote for, so they vote for someone else. I have more faith in the people who are dissenting from these candidates. I think it’s not because they know the media is lying but because they think that the candidates the media supports are lying. It has nothing to do with media in the end. It is a realization of how corrupt and deceitful the system is(not just media) and the desire for anyone who will do more than just promise change. Thats why guys like Kuninich, Paul and Huckabee(as much as I despise Mike, I must mention him too) are doing well.

I think it’s a shame what’s going on with Kucinich in NV. If Edwards, HRC and Obama had ANY cojones, they’d demand Kucinich participate or walk?
Whadda think they’ll do?

Nice going, I thought Tony Snow was going to have an aneurysm. Being called cynical by that prick is like being called a megalomaniac by Saddam Hussein.

Thanks Matt.
Keep up the good work.
We all could use a little honest talk for a change.
We’re mad as hell…and we’re not going to take it anymore!! Enough is enough.

Matt – please verbally disembowel any future yahoos (Mr. Snow I’m looking in your direction) when they interrupt you with vapid rebuttals from across the panel. I am a long, long time reader and was incensed when that ass clown kept stepping on questions Bill directly toward you. Don’t be tentative in fighting right back. You are smarter than most and certainly more acid tongued than anyone else who will be on that show this year. Capisce? You give a voice to the intelligent and weary citizens of this lost nation and I’d like to hear you express your opinions as much as possible in this new hour long venue. Make the hits keep on coming. Edwards/Obama ‘08

Matt, you were great on the show. Question – why Pakistan was not mentioned when talks are about Al Qaeda? And the foolball team owners comment that corporations care – what about the offshoring??
Pat | 1/16/2008, 3:17 pm EST
Matt,
Just learned of you on the Maher show. Then went to RS and read your last two articles!
Thanks for the great and courageous work!
a new loyal reader in California!

Matt- It’s funny to see how you think far too much of yourself. I found it to be rather amusing observing the level of intelligence between a punk-ass rolling stone contributor and the former press-secretary of the White House. You looked like a silly child up there, especially when you couldn’t even muster up the balls to respond to questions posed to you and had to formulate a rebuttal only after listening to Mr. Snow explain the situation and scenario to you. Go get a real job, preferably something that doesn’t involve spewing your unoriginal, inept, and condescending view of political issues that you don’t even understand.

Matt had plenty of balls to stand up to Tony’s rhetorical bullsh!t. Do you think Tony gives a fukc about the Iraqi people? It’s about liberating oil, not people. There’s REALPOLITIK here and Matt’s on the side of the facts. Check the timeline – wmd’s, when that failed…liberation.
Wish the vid went on a bit longer, would love to see Matt call out more of Tony’s bullsh!t.

I don’t have a television and don’t feel like stealing a full copy of the show, but it might be time to nominate yourself for Wimblehack, Matt. It’s debasing to appear on television with fascist goats like Tony Snow. If you’re going to keep showing up on TV, you’re going to need to develop some public speaking skills. You’re an excellent writer, but that skill just doesn’t overlap with being an effective talking head.
