An Obama Surge? DesMoines Register Poll

1/1/08, 4:38 pm EST

The latest poll out of Iowa shows Obama with a seven point edge over Hillary Clinton.

And it seems like his margin is all about the young folk.

56 percent of likely caucus goers under 35 prefer Obama — including 57 percent of young women voters, a major dent in Hillary’s hoped for base.

The Obama strategy in Iowa has always been about attracting new people to the process. If the youngin’s actually show up and caucus tomorrow, Obama could really win this thing.

He can win, and he will! | 1/1/2008, 6:23 pm EST

Dennis Kucinich, the Register’s poll, and a clear upward trajectory all bode well for Senator Obama – he will win Iowa, and continue to build momentum as America’s choice for the next president become ever more clear. Get ready change, folks!

“Polling over the holidays — when families are traveling — is a joke.”

I still stand behind the fact that THE ONLY PLACE POLLS ARE TO BE BELIEVED ARE IN POLAND!!!

why is college more expensive than ever?
(bill clinton & george bush)
why is the internet controlled by large corps?
(bill clinton – icann)
why is the us economy in the dumps?
(bill clinton & george bush)
why are raves outlawed?
(bill clinton & joe biden)
and so on. Hillary will do nothing progressive. Obama is the clear choice!

This whole election cycle that has been started way to far in advance is starting to get really old, really fast!!
Anyone ever have to listen to a long drawn out joke that you’ve listened to over and over and over again, and now, some stupid bastard is going to tell you that same joke again??
Hell this $hit is getting to be just like that but worse!!
This primary thing has gone way past being a bad joke, it’s on the very of phuking national insanity!!
It’s like a deranged fetish of the national news organization…
I’ll take bet’s that some college student someplace ask Dennis Kucinich what position he and his wife prefer, or ask Romney if his wife takes it up the shazooler!!
LOOK PEOPLE, THERE IS NO REASON THAT WE AS A NATION SHOULD HAVE TO BE PUT THROUGH THIS $HIT!!

now, if only younger people would actually, you know, go out and vote. but…end result: they won’t.

Martin McNickle | 1/1/2008, 9:20 pm EST

Straight up! I saw a recent speech of his today, and I was moved.

Andy | 1/1/2008, 11:13 pm EST

Only those who hate America will vote for Obama.

Joe Smoot | 1/1/2008, 11:23 pm EST

The only thing Hilary stand for is fulfilling her ambition to assume her “rightful” place. She tells us what she thinks will get her elected as opposed to what she believes. That’s why she and her husband are quick to change their position when challenged hard.

It’s time for change. We need a president with honesty, conviction, and good judgment: Obama.

If there’s a poll I’d believe it would be The Register’s – just too accurate

Jen | 1/1/2008, 11:32 pm EST

Obama gave people hope for this country again. He has to win because the stake is too high!

Science | 1/1/2008, 11:36 pm EST

Hey Tim,

Polling over the holidays makes no difference, unless one group being surveyed celebrates the holidays less than others.

They call 800 people at random. Last time I checked, most Iowans were on the same calendar, and celebrate the same holidays. That means the odds are equal among all people called that any one of them would not get picked for the poll because they were busy with holiday stuff, or traveling.

Please learn the facts before spreading information.

NO more Clinton dynasty, McCain’s Politics of Fear, Edward’s Phony tactics and corrupted Health Industry.

ITS SICKENING.

Also its time to end 20 years of Clinton/Bush political
dynasty.

!!! ITS TIME FOR CHANGE !!!

Hillary Clinton Voted for War on Iraq.
Barack Obama opposed this and he was right.

Hillary Clinton recently labelled Iran as a terrorist country.
Barack Obama opposed this and he was right.

Hillary Clinton supported Bush on aid to Pakistan for wrong reasons.
Barack Obama opposed this and he was right.

BARACK OBAMA’s JUDGEMENT TRIUMPHS OVER HILLARY’s WRONG EXPERIENCE.

!!! VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA !!!

A Bush seed has been planted in the febrile anoose of a Clinton already; a throbbing fetal scion is waiting to rise to the Crimson Throne. All hail Discordia!

PJL | 1/2/2008, 12:44 am EST

The polls mean nothing. Please, students enrolled in Iowa colleges, show your stuff, this is where you stand up and make your voices heard, caucus in Iowa for Obama.

DirtyDennis | 1/2/2008, 9:27 am EST

See mickerssss’ comments on the Obama Electability Edge, about three pages back (today) for an interesting historical perspective.

sup? | 1/2/2008, 10:17 am EST

just offhand, i’d say mickersss’ comments are correct. There’s no historical reason to think he can win nationally. Sorry. Based on what? Past voting patterns? Hope? Huh?

Sammy | 1/2/2008, 11:42 am EST

Don’t vote for the other man, vote for the brother man! Barack Hussien Obama

YoBama | 1/2/2008, 2:18 pm EST

Bill just blows in old Hillary’s ear and she believes whatever he says. That’s not the kind of leadership we need now.

ClarionJoe | 1/2/2008, 2:36 pm EST

Speaking of old versus new, I’m feeling like the new year is a good time to shake off the ghosts of the Bush’s and Clintons alike. Even if they served well, it’s a new day and Obama is, in fact, sounding better and better every day as a 21st Century leader versus the old 20th Century folks. Surely there is more than just one person out of the millions of American citizens who has enough common sense and leadership qualities to serve as president, and the name doesn’t really have to be Clinton to be qualified.

YS | 1/3/2008, 1:22 am EST

Iowans, stand-up and be counted…don’t miss your chance to be part of the process in making history!

Francine Longo | 1/3/2008, 7:08 am EST

What’s all thise business about only voting for the one you think can win. How about ideals? Values? Integrity? Everyone should vote for Kucinich whether he has a chance of winning or not. That way the winning candidate will be pressured to absorb more of his ideas.

The latest on Hillary is that, according to Ben Smith on politico, she’s using Obama’s slogans, fire it up, change, etc. You want to nitpick over Obama’s record, what is Hillary’s record? Two terms as an unspectacular Senator with a mediocre voting record, Subcommittee chair of the Superfund – which is full of incompetence, malfeasance and corruption – 8 years as a First Lady (Does eating with dignitaries really count?) – and a rather inactive stint with the Rose law firm in Little Rock. 35 years? I don’t think so. So quit trying to belittle Obama’s record if you’re simply trying to bolster Hillary’s.

What’s worse about hers is that she has inflated it beyond belief. And that’s what’s wrong with her in general. She can’t be trusted. She now says she wants to bring the troops back from Iraq in 60 days. Three months ago she insisted it would take more than a year to do it right. The woman will say, and has said, anything in order to get elected.

Please America, do the country a favor – Just Say No to Hillary.

Men have messed up the world since its creation. Women are proving to be better than men in running the affairs of the homes and the country and hence the world. Give Hillary a chance and see how the world will change. Blood flows to a womans brain but you know where is flows to in the men.
