Sweet Jesus, This is Getting Ridiculous

12/7/07, 6:29 pm EST

A Newsweek Iowa poll shows Huckabee kicking Romney’s rump:

The ordained Southern Baptist minister now leads Romney by a two-to-one margin, 39 percent to 17 percent, among likely GOP caucus-goers.

So much for the power of advertising…. Romney’s been blanketing Iowa’s airwaves (and presumably New Hampshire and South Carolina, too). According to this Boston Globe graph, Huckabee has yet to air a paid ad.

Its starting to look like Huck may be the peoples choice. What hes done is get the most out of interviews and debates, connecting with the swing voters, conservatives and progressive christains. To me Hucks a breath of fresh air like Obama is.

realityblowsdirtyinthemiddle | 12/7/2007, 6:53 pm EST

Huck is a breath of fresh air like a fart in an elevator.

Jed Clampett | 12/7/2007, 6:59 pm EST

I love it. Go Huckleberry go. Make the idiots spend all their money trying to spread their BS. Just keep on talking straight and being affable.

Jed Clampett | 12/7/2007, 7:35 pm EST

can’t wait for him to come out and say… “I’m your huckleberry!” (tombstone)

I’d post more, but you know what this site does with comments that have too many links in them.

Ray in particular you seem to eat up any candidate that becomes popular suddenly. I won’t knock you if you truly like the guy, but I hope you know who you are rooting for. From the light research I’ve done, (read his record, and his other political history, looked at who he associates himself with), I find it surprising that anyone thinks he is much different than Romney or Thompson. Even if you go for the religious morals this guy wants to enforce on all of us, you cannot deny that he buries his head in the bible and becomes misinformed about important matters of the world. He reminds me a lot of bush before he got elected. Seemed nice, tried being a gentle conservative and all that. Instead he became the worst of both parties. Eroded our rights, and our money for things we don’t even want. I fear that the religious are looking for a new savior from the same stock as their previous messiah.

F you, Frank! | 12/7/2007, 7:53 pm EST

I laugh every time I see a presidential poll. Besides being self fulfilling, the are so full of bs it makes religion seem believable.

Warning, for those of you who find words in and of themselves offensive, don’t bother watching the link below. For everyone else, here is just an example of what I mean:

f you frank,

thanks for the link!

not to mention, huck is a big gov’t rep. who tells iowa exactly what it wants to hear… “continued farm subsidies! Jesus is the answer!”

it’s that easy!

he will be difficult to displace. the fact he can connect with voters by the strength of his personality means the attack ads will look cheap and slick.

Arthur Lauritsen | 12/8/2007, 11:33 am EST

It seems amazing until you consider who he’s running against. The Republican candidate’s are all so terrible. Really, is it that much of an accomplishment to pull ahead of Romney?

C Co... aka I Smell Propaganda | 12/8/2007, 2:06 pm EST

No matter how you feel about Huck, what he’s doing in Iowa speaks to the American dream. Good luck with the rest of U.S.

ray | 12/8/2007, 10:58 pm EST

Wow guys really? i like Huck and Obama, it doesnt matter to me who gets popular my choice has been between them since last winter. ill vote for the one i like even if theyre the least popular with no chance to win.

likroper.com | 12/8/2007, 11:16 pm EST

i think you all should just shut up and vote for me…

Eastwood | 12/9/2007, 1:54 am EST

An Iowa poll isn’t exactly representative of the country. New Hampshire will look different because there aren’t as many evangelicals there.

Huckabee isn’t going to be the Republican candidate, it’s going to be a battle between Romney and Guliani.

Jed Clampett | 12/10/2007, 12:59 am EST

no it’s not, by definition it’s representative of IOWA.

Dave | 12/10/2007, 3:02 am EST

Huckabee hates all my queer friends, and thinks Jesus would support the death penalty if he were a politician. That’s a big no for me.

Dave | 12/10/2007, 3:05 am EST

I also thought it was hilarious that Thompson has only run 13 ads. I mean, where does he find the time?

DirtyDennis | 12/10/2007, 8:19 am EST

Jed/Clint,

You should check out the Iowa Caucas in Wikipedia. The whole shebang is, guess what, a MSM contrivance. Moreover, it looks like the Dems pick the ultimate winner less than half the time whilst the Cons a little more than half the time.

Coach | 12/10/2007, 5:09 pm EST

If the electoral college is the deciding factor again, all of us be damned!

Think about it. A few number of states get to determine the federal law of the land, including foreign policy. Yes, yes, hawks, I know. Congress writes the laws. But, with the Presidential veto, and signing statements at an all time high, who REALLY writes the laws?
Eliminate the electoral college. Eliminate, or seriously reform lobbying. Tax religion. Then, and ONLY then, will we have a true democracy. We still currently live under a neo-plantation-owner system.

jedblowsdirtyinthemiddle | 12/10/2007, 7:46 pm EST

Electoral College will most certainly decide the next election.

Tim | 12/10/2007, 8:30 pm EST

It’s obvious the media were alarmed early on with the sudden rise and novelty of the outsider – Ron Paul.

They also knew Rudy, Romney and McCain offered no pretense to push Dr. Paul off the news pages. These three were front runners and had spent their novelty.

So the media hand-picked Huckabee to be the “underdog rising” story to drown out Ron Paul and keep him at bay.

The polls soon echo the media.

This is most obvious in Iowa with its entrenched and corrupt Republican leadership.

Eastwood | 12/10/2007, 8:33 pm EST

Can someone give me a GOOD reason why every state doesn’t vote on the same day in the primaries like they do the national election? That would actually make sense. Come to think of it, why can’t we the people decide to have nominees from DIFFERENT parties debating each other before the primaries? Is it because you might actually get substantial debate on the issues?

Jed,

Thank you for re-stating the obvious. Still angry about losing that Israel argument hmmm? Remember your blood pressure.

Jed Clampett | 12/10/2007, 11:47 pm EST

lost?? i didn’t realize it was a contest, sniffer. Since you chose to stop responding to the posts because you couldn’t accept the premis doesn’t make you a winner, just a quitter.

Coach | 12/11/2007, 12:30 am EST

Here you go Eastwood. Here’s where YOU left off on the debate about Israel. You obviously missed the last few posts on this particular forum, so, I’ll post it here for you to respond to……

Easterbunny: So, you make a statement and choose not to debate the merits of it, and that equates victory?
Think about it for one second. You’re theory is that we invaded Iraq and soon Iran because of the threat to Israel’s annhilation. Sure, it sounds good on paper, and has a catchy ring to it. But, Israel has nukes, Iran doesn’t. So, based on that fundamental elementary conclusion, it sounds like Iran is threatened. Based on your theory, shouldn’t we be helping Iran?
All I know, is that since we invaded Iraq on a false premise, oil prices have skyrocketed. Bush’s industry moguls have been enriched. And, we’ve lost plenty of security and privacy.
Call it what you want, but there is absolutely zero evidence of the threat to Israel that you and hawks like to tout. It’s all rhetoric, just like Ahmadinerjacket’s rhetoric. And, that rhetoric has been spun. He said Israel should be wiped off the map. Couldn’t that just mean redrawing the border lines? Does that automatically mean nuclear holocaust? The fear machine is in full effect and you, my friend, are being duped

chris | 12/11/2007, 3:33 pm EST

The electoral college has decided every Presidential election since the nations founding.

To Coach, “tax religion”? That, my friend, is unconstitutional. To Tim, nice call, I am going to look into the polls v. the media through Agenda Setting theory, it makes sense to keep Paul out, he is the most extreme of any of the candidates, left or right.

And to who is talking about Israel…nobody wins…ever.

Coach | 12/11/2007, 4:39 pm EST

Chris: Unconstitutional? So, letting religious industries continue to sway political policy by being able to lobby is fair, but making them pay their fair share of taxes isn’t? Good argument.

Bender | 12/11/2007, 7:43 pm EST

Chris: Invading a sovereign nation based on propogated lies is also unconstitutional. So is voter suppression. So is treason. But, yet those things seem to happen. Besides, the constitution can be amended Chris. And, according to our forefathers, was supposed to be amended every 10 years.

Taxing religion is one of the best ideas I’ve heard of yet. It’ll weed out the frauds and allow us to track the church’s spending, allowing us to find the fanatics.

sue | 12/12/2007, 9:09 pm EST

frsh air??? a fundie yahoo who denied an abortion to a 15 year old raped by her stepfather even tho it should have been paid for under medicaid law?? who denies evolution and gl;obal climate change are valid theories? who believes i should submit to his authority because he has a penis????

Eastwood | 12/12/2007, 9:44 pm EST

Coach,

I’m being duped? After that completely illogical, misleading and ridiculous post you’re saying I’M being duped? Far from fooling anyone, you sound like you’re duping yourself.

I’m starting to doubt your sincerity as neither you-or Jed-has posted a single fact in support of the false argument that bombing Iran is solely for the benefit of the oil companies. Consider that Israel plans to bomb exactly the same spots the U.S. was. According to your argument, Israel would be bombing Iran solely for the benefit of the oil companies. While the rest of humanity would consider such a notion ridiculous I’m going to give you both-or is it one poster using two handles??-a chance to defend your argument: Provide one shred of evidence that the U.S. oil countries control the military of the state of Israel.

I’m waiting.

Eastwood | 12/12/2007, 9:59 pm EST

While I’m waiting I’ll tend to the by-now annoying business of trashing your post. You wrote:

“You’re theory is that we invaded Iraq and soon Iran because of the threat to Israel’s annhilation. But, Israel has nukes, Iran doesn’t. So, based on that fundamental elementary conclusion, it sounds like Iran is threatened. Based on your theory, shouldn’t we be helping Iran?”

I have a hard time taking a comment as irrational and ignorant as this seriously. Does the U.S. feel completely safe from terrorists because we have nuclear weapons? No. Again, just because Iran doesn’t have nukes doesn’t mean they won’t develop them-WHICH IS THE WHOLE POINT-pass them into Israel via terrorist network and therefore POSE A THREAT to Israel’s existence. This is precisely what the Israelis have been saying for the past 4 years.

71% of the Israeli population wants Iran bombed if diplomatic efforts fail to halt their nuclear program according to a may 2007 poll. Israeli intelligence believes Iran is still working on its nuclear program according to Israeli defense minister, Ehud Barak. Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert declined to endorse the U.S. NIE saying Iran has stopped its nuclear weapons program, the Israelis have detailed war plans on bombing Iran nuclear enriching plants at Natanz, etc… etc…

Eastwood | 12/12/2007, 10:06 pm EST

And as for the “shouldn’t we be helping Iran” part, since you don’t read or didn’t bother to check the last post for updates I repeatedly answered that question: There is no large Iranian voting block in the U.S., unlike the large Jewish voting population here. Because of this there is no reason for elected officials to back the Iranians.

Eastwood | 12/12/2007, 10:10 pm EST

Jed,

“Couldn’t accept the premise” huh?

That’s rich, since you never provided support for it whatsoever.

Jed Clampett | 12/13/2007, 2:17 pm EST

wow, your reading comprehension seem to leave much to be desired. particularly since you tend to deduce things that have not been stated or even implied. I can understand that you apply your own way of thinking to the way others might analyze a problem. Like any of the programs we develop in software engineering, put sh*t in, get sh*t out. It’s particularly more corruptive of the data when the program itself is nothing more than sh*t. You’ve proven yourself to be a great example of bad programming. congratulations!!

Seems you are basically expecting us to prove the theories you want us to express, regardless of what we’ve actually said. What’s next? are you gonna ask Drew Peterson to prove he didn’t kill his disapeared wife?

Eastwood | 12/13/2007, 11:21 pm EST

Coach Jed,

I’m sorry to make you look as utterly ridiculous as you are but your shrill rhetoric and obfuscation from the central fact that the Iraq war is mostly for the protection of Israel has sealed your own fate.

You wrote: “Seems like you are basically expecting us to prove the theories you want us to express, regardless of what we’ve actually said.”

Nope. The theory that the Iraq war was about oil is yours in your own words, just as surely as you have been unable to defend that theory. You said:

Jed Clampett 12/5/2007, 11:52pm EST: “The Iraq war is largely about oil.” “What does [Bush] believe in most, God or OIL, it seems very obvious he believes in the power and prosperity of oil. [Bush] has a very good relationship with oil and no understanding of even the concept of God.”

Coach 12/5/2007, 11:52pm EST: “This whole escapade in the middle east is about entrenching [Bush's] oil cronies in the region for years to come.”

Neither of you have posted a single fact in support of your theory while I have run circles around you, proving every single contention you have made regarding it false and making an airtight case via facts and logic that Israel is mainly behind our military actions in the middle east. If anyone questions this case they can simply read below, read the thread entitled “Last Week?!?” on Rolling Stone, wikipedia Israel Iran relations, Wikipedia/google Douglas Feith, Paul Wolfowitz, Project for a New American Century, or look up recent articles in the NYTimes and other leading papers on the recent NIE claiming Iran is not a threat and Israel’s reaction to that NIE.

Again the case is airtight: Israel is behind U.S. middle east policy. Prove me wrong.

Eastwood | 12/13/2007, 11:23 pm EST

Good luck.

Jed Clampett | 12/13/2007, 11:34 pm EST

well, I imagine you are so intent on ‘wining’ you won’t accept evidence as posed to you or realize when you are twisting others words. you must be proud to use neocon tactics to such effective self deception. Live happily everafter in your delusion. so let it be written, so let it be done!!!

Eastwood | 12/15/2007, 1:24 am EST

Jed,

That is one of the saddest examples of acquiescence in history.

Just admit it: I am smarter than you are. You are a simple person unable to debate matters of life and death without injecting retardation and idiocy into the proceedings. Leave the debate to the adults Jed. You obviously belong in the kiddie pool. Don’t splash the other kids Jed. It’s not nice.

Eastwood | 12/16/2007, 4:05 pm EST

Coach Jed,

I enjoy that you whine about me not accepting you evidence when you have provided none. Below is an example of true evidence. Read carefully, you might learn something.

Hopefully you are informed enough to read the news. If so you may have caught the Israeli public security minister, Avi Dichter warning yesterday that the U.S. NIE report that Iran is no longer developing nuclear arms “is liable to lead to a regional war where Israel will be among the countries that are threatened”

Now think for a minute coach Jed, why would the fact that Iran is NOT developing nuclear arms-which both of you believe according to what you wrote-cause a “regional war?” Could it possibly be because Israel will launch strikes on Iran in exactly the fashion I’ve been writing about since this conversation started.

Among other things this war-monger said were this: “Those same (intelligence) arms in the U.S. are apt to make a mistake and declare that the Palestinians have fulfilled their commitments, which would carry with it very serious consequences from Israel’s vantage point.”

Ah threats from Israel. According to this lunatic, if U.S. intelligence reports that the Palestinians have “fulfilled their {peace} commitments” Then Israel will enact “serious consequences.”

In your alternate reality these are the words of a country trying to make peace. In the real world these are the words of a renegade country that needs to be put in its place. If Israel is unable to work for peace the U.S. should sever diplomatic relations with them and let them fend for themselves.

As you said coach Jed, they have the most advanced army in the Mid East. Let them fight for themselves.
