Decider or Dictator

12/7/07, 3:46 pm EST

The line is getting perilously thin.

Think Progress highlights a floor speech by Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), a former U.S. Attorney who spent hours pouring over the classified legal briefs of the Bush’s Office of Legal Counsel. He was “dismayed” by what he uncovered. He got declassified a pair of legal assertions that should make every constitution loving American’s blood run cold. They say, effectively, that the President’s constitutional authorities are checked only by his own interpretations of them, and that he cannot be second-guessed by the Department of Justice. This is, in an acronym, FUBAR:

• The President, exercising his constitutional authority under Article II, can determine whether an action is a lawful exercise of the President’s authority under Article II.

• The Department of Justice is bound by the President’s legal determinations.

akin to reinterpreting the bible in order to excert control over the masses, huh?

This helps to explain why there isn’t much of a case for impeachment. Legal corruption. Disgusting. And, the worst part, the vast majority of the public couldn’t give two s#@*s either way. We, as a country, have gotten exactly what we deserve. So, now the question is: When do we decide to actually stand up and demand justice, and how do we do it when the time comes?

I can’t believe Think Progress didn’t mention the other declassified documents, which revealed Dubya’s compulsive doodling of oversized phalluses and his tendency to write nonesense statements like:
“Find a bud and break it up,
roll a joint and smoke it up!”
If that doesn’t make your blood run cold, then cabbage.

Delta Wild Man | 12/7/2007, 6:38 pm EST

That is what it all boils down to isn’t it??
All this hoopla about the President, someone in the democrat party is trying to “MOTOVATE” someone to do something that would ( let’s say cut the term of “dubya” a little short), Right??
You’ve been hinting around it,, might as well say it..
Some of you want the president dead, Right??

Chuck Norris doesn’t interpret the Constitution, Chuck Norris IS the Constitution.

Is Pelosi’s stance about impeachment ‘not being on the table’ obstruction of justice?

She may want to rethink her stance on that before the repubes start to push for impeachment to save THEIR party from this combination of rodeo clown/joe pesci.

Does the current DOJ head agree with these words? If so congress should immediately remove him and replace him with someone who doesn’t.

The truth is that this entire administration has been a test of the U.S. constitution. The only way we can be granted a passing grade is if we impeach this criminal administration and imprison its members for life.

BINGO!!!

DirtyDennis | 12/9/2007, 4:18 pm EST

Clint,

We’ll probably need to waterboard a few to get them to divulge their heineous secrets. It’s repugnant to me, but necessary for national security.

Grizzedram@yahoo.de | 12/9/2007, 11:30 pm EST

I think it’s time to stop talking about organizing and actually organize. We are rapidly approaching (maybe even passed) the time when it is too late to do anything. Let’s begin the work now so we don’t have more to do later.

Coach | 12/10/2007, 12:19 pm EST

You have got to be phucking kidding me with the censorship filter on this forum. Isn’t this rolling stone? Doesn’t Tim use curse words all the time? It’s a phucking joke.

But, anyway, the only option available, other than not paying taxes, or taking it to the street, is to continually pound Pelosi with emails letting her know that by taking impeachment off the table, she may be obstructing justice.
