Push back the Doomsday Clock

12/3/07, 3:34 pm EST

You know I got so agitated about fact that we’ve been lied to for the past four years about Iran’s nuclear program, that I didn’t take a moment to savor the fact that Iran hasn’t had a nuclear weapons program for the last four years.

In a sea of bad news, that some rockin’ good news. Most importantly it means we have time — and a precious window of opportunity — to bring Iran to the table and defuse this threat without brinksmanship.

Earlier: Iranian Nuclear Weapons Program? What Iranian Nuclear Weapons Program?

“You know got so agitated about fact that we’ve been lied to…”

Nice.

Man, something is seriously wrong with this blogs word filter. At least let us know what obscure word is somehow offensive so we dont waste 20 minutes writing something that won’t be accepted.

Jed Clampett | 12/3/2007, 8:13 pm EST

who here, besides the usual neocon suspects, believes that the administration has not known the findings in this report while at the same time trying to make the case for invading Iran and further destabilizing the middle east and oil markets in order to raise the price of oil for their oil industry friends?

Eastwood | 12/3/2007, 8:49 pm EST

Don’t worry, I just went to their site so you wouldn’t have to.

One of the leading headlines? “Iran refuses to stop its nuclear work”.

Now go to Shell, Chevron, Mobil, BP, or any of their websites and try to find the same headline.

Jed Clampett | 12/3/2007, 9:08 pm EST

so, you think a crook is going to advertize how he is raping your economy and political system?
Man, no wonder you have trouble realizing how mislead this country has been since the end of wwII.

David... | 12/3/2007, 10:11 pm EST

Tim, I thought you were a lot brighter than that.

Guess we give you credit for stuff we shouldn’t.

Oops.

Jed Clampett | 12/4/2007, 1:05 am EST

“It was cheney who allowed..”? what kind of koolaid have you been drinking? does it come from cow patties. The NIE was released by the intelligence community despite The Penguins objections so that the country can have an informed debate instead of being spoon fed the desired intelligence as it was done b4 the iraq invasion.

Seems to me the housing problem was caused by lack of regulation of the lending industry. They were given carte blanche by a president who is in charge of enforcing the laws yet seems to ignore and avoid the laws himself.
A sitting president injecting himself into the judicial process by pardoning his crony before the ink was dry on the conviction? With a better informed populace would have demanded and impeachment long ago. This wouldn’t eveh be a debate if americans really were well educated about their political system and their politicians.

just wait | 12/4/2007, 3:54 pm EST

Just as Rumsfeld determined the final say on Iraqs threat assessment for his PNAC buddies and the rest of the war profiteers, Wolfowitz will try subverting this. At least this time around it will be an uphill battle.

Coach | 12/4/2007, 5:41 pm EST

Eastwood: “Yes, they’re called AIPAC. Oil companies have an incentive to keep oil prices LOW right now to combat nationalization in oil rich states and competition from renewable resources.”

So, then what explains the 250% rise in the cost of a barrell of oil? Sounds like you’ve bought into certain lines of propoganda during this administration. But, the bigger question is this: why does anybody believe anything that comes from anybody in the white house?

And, to address you and Clampett’s housing crisis debate: The lowering of the interest rates, which caused this whole mess, was a gift from the Bush Administration to the people. It was intended to keep the ‘people’ happy during a time of war, so as to distract them. Thing is, they also let their lending buddies get in on the act and allow them to virtually rape the unknowing citizens with fraudulent lending practices.

Thanks for the gift Stub. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer. Plain, fundamental, elementary, simple, easy. The Stub Doctrine.

Eastwood | 12/4/2007, 10:55 pm EST

O.K. apparently this site is not going to allow me to debate this issue here. Would either of you suggest a different blog on which to argue?

Eastwood | 12/4/2007, 11:25 pm EST

In the meantime, could either of you explain to me why the Israeli military has drawn up detailed plans to bomb Iran with nuclear weapons should the U.S. fail to do something?

Is it because the Israelis are controlled by Mobil? Is that why?

Jed Clampett | 12/5/2007, 12:20 am EST

I’m sure your prejudice predisposes you to blame everything on the Jews like a certain german regime did a few years back.
While the Jews have been a piss poor ally since it’s inception, I think I can understand why they have drawn up plans to bomb Iran. If they do, of course we should end that relationship and let them take care of themselves. Lord knows they have enough to destroy the ME on their own.
But to think the US is willing to start wwIII over the jews you are insane. They may be a convenient excuse, but I can assure you that the only driver behind these people is greed and lust for power. Nothing else.

DirtyDennis | 12/5/2007, 8:05 am EST

Clint,

MCP only filters certain words. Irrationally. (No, that’s not one of them, I hope. But they filter irrationally.) b u y and s h i t are but a couple. Find which ones they are and your posts should be okay.

You guys are as bad as the candidates. You’re arguing over triflings. In truth, you’re not THAT far apart. There are bigger fish to fry.

Coach | 12/5/2007, 12:00 pm EST

Eastwood: Why are you trumpeting use of a nuclear weapon by someone other than the United States? Do you have a reference? What other country HAS used one?

I’ve got an idea: So as to not look like an arsehole anymore, why doesn’t the U.S. stop meddling and let the crazies use their alleged bomb? That would give everybody the green light to retalliate. Oh! Snap! I almost forgot. We don’t want everybody in there. We want it unilaterally.

When did the rules of engagement change Republicans? When did America become the country of bomb first and ask questions later? When did America have to start searching for reasons to invade?

Eastwood | 12/5/2007, 7:52 pm EST

Jed,

In what world do you live in where you’re right by losing every single argument?

Again, Israel has detailed plans to bomb the nuclear enrichment facilities in Iran. Now that a U.S. strike is off the table an Israeli strike is becoming very likely (listen to Ehud Barak denying the truth of this NIE.)

Are you actually denying that Israel doesn’t want Iran to have nuclear weapons? Are you saying they have no interest in the matter?

And Coach, every serious analyst in Washington believes Israel has nuclear weapons. Israeli attack plans include bunker busting missiles armed with low grade nuclear devices developed by the U.S. AND GIVEN TO ISRAEL.

I have repeatedly shown how the U.S. oil industry has nothing to gain by bombing Iran and neither of you have not answered.

To even insinuate that Israel is not behind the war in Iraq and a bombing of Iran shows how little you know about global politics.

Eastwood | 12/5/2007, 8:03 pm EST

And no Jed,

“the Jews” as you call them are not responsible for all the world’s problems. It sounds like 1930’s Germany all over again when you write something like that.

likroper.com | 12/6/2007, 1:14 am EST

in this corner we have Eastwood – in the other Jed Clampett…

Jed Clampett | 12/6/2007, 2:18 am EST

open your eyes pal. what was once the ‘jewish scurge’ has now become the ‘invasion of illegals’.

Vilification of the Poles, checks, russians etc. has become the vilification of Arabs.

What was once the suspension of laws in order to protect the fatherland has become ‘the patriot act’.

You may be blind to the lessons of history or unable to recognize the ‘beast’ when it manifests itself and imposes it’s will on the population. But some uf us have made it our life’s work. Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Like any other natural rythm, war and peace have an oscilatory nature as well, dampening the downwards oscilation keeps us relatively peaceful and prosperous, allowing idiots like the neocons to enhance the downward slide enriches them and puts the whole world at their mercy(or rather their lack thereof).

likroper.com | 12/6/2007, 8:36 am EST

it should be obvious that everybody must be vilified at one time or another (see: bob dylan – everybody must get stoned), but you have to stand in line and wait your turn…

for instance; 1) homo sapiens raping and killing neanderthal, then more of the same with; 2) the christian inquisition – then somewhere down the line it turned on; 3) the jews (during WWII in germany), who coincidentally initially vilified the wiccans in the old testament, then stole wicca and turned it into kabballah!?; 4) the japanese (during WWII in US) and; 5) the germans (post WWII in US) – then it wandered over to; 6) the chinese for a minute with wen ho lee, and now it has turned on the muslims after their big march in washington DC in 1995 (which i believe led to the US military/FBI collusion in the oklahoma city bombing) etc etc etc…

WHO’S NEXT?

Jed Clampett | 12/6/2007, 8:47 am EST

do you have some confirmatio of your assertion about Homo Sapiens vs. Neanderthal or is it just a conjecture driven by the belief theat man in inherently evil, as some would have us believe.

Perhaps It’s more indicative of your personal predilection rather than fact or even an educated guess.

Coach | 12/6/2007, 1:01 pm EST

Oh, excuse me for being distracted by your spew. I didn’t realize you were telling me that this escapade through the middle east was NOT about oil. Thank God you told me. Repeatedly shown us MY ASS! Just because you think it’s the Jewish lobby, doesnt’ mean a damn thing to any of us. Our President is not jewish. He’s oilish. Oil prices are up 250 percent. Gas prices are up 250 percent. But, somehow this escapade isn’t making the oil companies richer????

You’ve almost made yourself unreadable. Keep it up, please. Soon, we’ll be able to find you right next to Delta WildHawk.

Eastwood | 12/7/2007, 12:45 am EST

Jed,
“open your eyes pal. what was once the ‘jewish scurge’ has now become the ‘invasion of illegals’.

Vilification of the Poles, checks, russians etc. has become the vilification of Arabs.”

I could not agree more. Intolerance is the worst evil eating at our world today. The Washington Post recently didn’t apologize for (accusing??) Barak Obama of being a muslim.

Building a fence against illegal immigrants -especially when they’re the result of our Nafta policies-is at worst racist and shows the true character of middle America.

The same intolerance is an issue in Israel today. Israel unyeildingly insists that Palestinian refugees will not be allowed on their lands because it will “dilute the Jewish character” of the state.

You are right. Intolerance is the worst of evil. Amen.

Eastwood | 12/7/2007, 12:48 am EST

Coach,

Am I unreadable because I keep winning our arguments? Denial is pretty powerful I suppose. I’ll take yours as a compliment.

likroper.com | 12/7/2007, 1:57 am EST

Jed,

i do know that long after the extiction of neanderthal, a man’s mate was whichever woman he could successfully rape, so it couldn’t have been much better before their extinction, trust me – actually; it is currently actually like this in some areas of the world…

likroper.com | 12/7/2007, 2:07 am EST

but you know; we can only guess what really happened to neanderthal, some say the aborigines are the remnants of neanderthal, the aboriginal inhabitants of this planet…

(native americans were originally brought [by aliens?] to chaco canyon, the dogon tribe to south africa, and the jews to the garden of E.DIN between the tigris and the euphrates rives etc etc etc – see: sitchin.com)

DirtyDennis | 12/7/2007, 8:29 am EST

Children, please, while you argue over how many angels will fit on the head of a pin, the Cons keep ruling this country, and by extension, the world.

You are demonstrating both the strength AND, sadly, its weaknesses. Disagreement is healthy, focus is necessary. We must storm the castle and slay the beast.

Jed Clampett | 12/7/2007, 1:19 pm EST

Coach | 12/10/2007, 5:20 pm EST

Easterbunny: So, you make a statement and choose not to debate the merits of it, and that equates victory?
Think about it for one second. You’re theory is that we invaded Iraq and soon Iran because of the threat to Israel’s annhilation. Sure, it sounds good on paper, and has a catchy ring to it. But, Israel has nukes, Iran doesn’t. So, based on that fundamental elementary conclusion, it sounds like Iran is threatened. Based on your theory, shouldn’t we be helping Iran?
All I know, is that since we invaded Iraq on a false premise, oil prices have skyrocketed. Bush’s industry moguls have been enriched. And, we’ve lost plenty of security and privacy.
Call it what you want, but there is absolutely zero evidence of the threat to Israel that you and hawks like to tout. It’s all rhetoric, just like Ahmadinerjacket’s rhetoric. And, that rhetoric has been spun. He said Israel should be wiped off the map. Couldn’t that just mean redrawing the border lines? Does that automatically mean nuclear holocaust? The fear machine is in full effect and you, my friend, are being duped.

Jed Clampett | 12/10/2007, 7:05 pm EST

and there you have the essense of his debating victories. Once someone actually makes a point, he actls like he hasn’t read it or is not worth answering. Seemed better when he used a different moniker. He used to sniff his own propaganda farts.
