Foes Use Obama’s Muslim Ties to Fuel Rumors About Him

By Perry Bacon Jr.

In his speeches and often on the Internet, the part of Sen. Barack Obama’s biography that gets the most attention is not his race but his connections to the Muslim world.

Since declaring his candidacy for president in February, Obama, a member of a congregation of the United Church of Christ in Chicago, has had to address assertions that he is a Muslim or that he had received training in Islam in Indonesia, where he lived from ages 6 to 10. While his father was an atheist and his mother did not practice religion, Obama’s stepfather did occasionally attend services at a mosque there.

Despite his denials, rumors and e-mails circulating on the Internet continue to allege that Obama (D-Ill.) is a Muslim, a “Muslim plant” in a conspiracy against America, and that, if elected president, he would take the oath of office using a Koran, rather than a Bible, as did Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), the only Muslim in Congress, when he was sworn in earlier this year.

There are no people running for the office of the President who would willingly hurt America.
Obama, is not a Muslim, and that is what Obama has said, not anyone else.
Obama however has family who are Muslims, and I’ll bet has a unique view of the Muslim people.
I’m not for sure what side of the isle that rumor came from, but seeing how it has already started, I’d be looking at the democrats.
To early for the republicans to start in on him.
Oh, just saw where a suicide bomber took hostages at Hillary Clinton’s campaign headquarters in New Hamp.
I suppose someone will blame that on Obama because he has family that are Muslims!

Considering that it was Fox News that played the “story” that Obama was educated in a madrassa over and over again I think you’ve answered your own question.

The right loves that people think obama is osama. It’s the only way they can win elections; by distracting from real issues.

We can never really know what someone else believes, from what Obama has said and done i doubt hes a plant, he did church work and professed his faith in Jesus so i think whoever started this is a moron, a GOP trickster or a Clinton operative.

A lot of the people who put this stuff out there are not actually working for any particular campaign. They are usually think tanks that want to help a particualr party (usually republicans) because their agenda benefits them. No one actually “hires” them.

This kind of thing smells more like a neocon tar than a Clinton one. The madrassa story was circulated long before Clinton and Obama were considered meaningfully close in any poll. The whole thing was floated as a way to destroy Obama from the get go, because he was deemed to be a wild card candidate.

Hillary might be exploiting it now of course, but the origin of this thing is strictly neocon.
