Clinton: General Election Trouble

11/26/07, 11:27 pm EST

The latest Zogby poll — a big one with a very low margin of error ( ±1% ) — has troubling numbers for Senator Hillary Clinton.

She’s dropped below all five top Republicans in prospective head-to-head matchups:

Giuliani 43 / Clinton 40
Romney 43 / Clinton 40
Huckabee 44 / Clinton 39
Thompson 44 / Clinton 40
McCain 42 / Clinton 38

The news is somewhat better for Edwards, who is running neck-and-neck with the GOP frontrunners.

Obama, meanwhile, is seen cleaning Republican clock, beating each opponent by at least 5 and more often 7 percent.

This if these numbers keep up they’ll put a major dent in Clinton’s electability cred. They certainly gird Obama’s argument that he’s the one Democrat who can attract open-minded independents and Republicans.

UPDATE: Real questions raised about integrity of this poll.

If Hillary Clinton wins her party nomination, the Republican Party will rejuvinated.

WOW, I didn’t mean to make her numbers drop by that much..
Hillary, If you read this, I’m sorry!!

Edwards’ numbers will go up even higher once he starts getting more media attention again, as Hillary falls, and people pay more attention in the final days of the campaign.

Obama and Hillary are saddled with racial and gender discrimination: there is no getting away from it-it has an effect, and will be used against them, as it has in the past.

Edwards is the safest choice, and the best one.

Finally, after hearing the pundits like Chris Matthews and the commentators like Wolf Blitzer repeatedly tell the country that Hillary was destined for the White House, Zogby tells the truth. It’s certainly a relief for the millions of us who have seen through Hillary’s flimsy character from the beginning. Now it appears the Democrats won’t be pressured into voting not for the most qualified candidate but for the one they believe can beat the Republicans. Hillary, supposedly, was that candidate, which in retrospect was a joke.

Why? because there’s no there there. How much relevant experience is there in the 35 years of experience she claims to have? The Healthcare debacle? Well, sure, that was experience but not something she wants to elaborate on for long. Because she talked to Bill about NAFTA and Bosnia? Because she shook a few hands and kissed a few babies along the way? Does that count? Or is she counting the number of years she craved to be Imperial Empress?

The strange thing is that despite her Focus-Group gurus who were going to sweep across the country, burying the opposition, she was woefully out of touch with current American sentiments. It turns out voters value good and fresh ideas more than experience, which aids every other candidate except for Hillary.

Here’s where she lost the campaign: 1. never acknowledging she was wrong on her vote to give W the option to attack Iraq, 2. never being specific about her plans, saying she doesn’t answer hypotheticals, for the sake of never appearing to be wrong, 3. an inability to contain her proclivity for flipflopping, especially in response to the question about granting illegal immigrants a DL, 4. voting for Kyl-Lieberman which called the Iranian Guards terrorists, providing the grounds for the Neocons to conduct the next stage of their immoral “War on Terror” by bombing Iran.

You have to feel sorry for the female supporters who ache for a female President. It’s long overdue. But this candidate, Hillary the former Republican Clinton, should not be that candidate. She’s no leader. And even if she was, she’s already been bought and paid for by the Fortune 100 and the Military Industrial Complex. It’s a joke about her turning left. Indeed, she’s often called Bush Lite with good reason. Look at her voting record and see why.

Wow! Mr. Zogby thanks for restoring a bit of faith in the common masses again. For a moment there I too was drinking the Kool Aid, thinking of Hillary as the predetermined pick. Now that’s behind us.

Clinton had a 30% lead among women nationally. But in Iowa Obama has a slight lead among women. Iowa women men have a had chance to meet and hear directly from Obama and Clinton. More and more are choosing Obama. What that does tell you?

Of course many woman want to see a woman president, but is Clinton the right woman. Perhaps not.
Unlike Pelosi, Feinstein, and other women who have won elections based on their own accomplishments, a Hillary victory would be based largely on her husbands accomplisments.

DirtyDennis | 11/27/2007, 12:35 pm EST

Given that her husband is a former POTUS, many (you?) would never credit her with anything.

She DID manage to bring in conservative upstate NY. Or did they vote her in to see more of Bill?

Does anybody remember the November 04 Zogby poll that some interesting numbers for President Kerry…

Coach | 11/27/2007, 3:40 pm EST

Polls, polls, polls. I don’t know anybody who’s participated in any of these polls. Nor do I know anybody who’s voted yet. If you need a poll to tell you who to vote for, then a POLE is what you’re going to get.
Bottom line is this: Ignore the ‘primary’ polls. They’re meaningless and media driven anyway. Research voting history for each of the candidates (how they used their votes). That will give you your candidate. Use the polls, and you’ll get ‘poled’…..

Good news or bad news | 11/27/2007, 4:43 pm EST

Each of those comparisons give me shivers. It’s so disappointing to see the least worthy candidates getting the most media coverage and biased poll coverage. Meanwhile the true candidates, the Kucinichs and Pauls are hidden from voters view, demonized or trivialized.

WARDROBE MALFUNCTION!!
Something like the one that Janet Jackson had, but during a debate.
Whoop out a tit, who everyone how much WOH-MUN you are, remove all doubts!!
That’s the only thing less than the plague that’s going to save her now,, unless…..
I can hear him now, setting on a couch in her bedroom…
Hildy, I can get you out of this mess Hun.. but your gonna have to give me a Monica and,,, well remember that time we tied each other up??
I get the whip this time though…
Yes, Bill has the power, He has that Silver Tung, and yes he’s still got that Southern Accent!!
The election can be hers,,, if,,,, THE PRICE IS RIGHT!!

Polls mean a lot in POLAND

ray | 11/27/2007, 10:37 pm EST

i dont think Hillary has electability, if she does its because Bill stayed popular somehow. theres no candidate with higher negative ratings so far. Its not just the voice, or personality its Senator Clintons record too. Stop the dynasty!

Delta Wild Man | 11/27/2007, 11:28 pm EST

Ray
I agree, But stop both of the dynasties. the clinton’s and the Bush’s.
If I live to be 150 years old, I shall not want to see another clinton or bush in the white house.

Check Hillary’s numbers vs the GOP in the latest Gallup poll

Cliff | 11/28/2007, 3:20 am EST

As a statistics grad student, I can tell you that the Zogby poll has terrible statistical methodology. It’s not random at all and is ridden with selection bias (they actually have people sign up for the survey rather than random selection across the country). It’s not at all representative of the nation. If you look at polls with very precise methodologies (like Gallup), Mrs. Clinton is beating every single GOP candidate.

That being said, polls this early are meaningless anyways. Things are bound to change over the next year leading up to the election.

ray | 11/28/2007, 6:31 pm EST

DWM, thanks. When i say the dynasty i mean both, 13 months from now well be through with the Bushs and maybe the Clintons.i believe it when they say Jeb wont run in the future.
