Blitzer: Wolf or Lapdog

11/16/07, 10:04 pm EST

It’s one thing to be a bad debate moderator. It’s another thing to be a biased debate moderator.

Check out the interference CNN’s Wolf Blitzer ran for Hillary last night in this exchange with Obama:

CNN.com – Transcripts
BLITZER: Let me bring in Senator Obama, because you’ve been among those critical of Senator Clinton. You’ve suggested she’s triangulating — whatever that means — on some of the key issues.

Funny that Wolf should suddenly find this vocabulary so challenging. After all, he defined the word himself on CNN Newsroom the morning of the debate:

“[Hillary's] going to have to take some clear-cut positions, otherwise she’ll be accused of waffling or triangulation, as some of the pundits call it, and that’s not necessarily going to be good for her.” (via Nexis)

So Wolf identifies triangulation as Clinton’s primary weakness in the morning. And then tries to make Obama look like an asshole for calling her on her triangulation in the evening.

What a douche dislikeable fellow.

i was dissapointed with the moderators from the last two debates.i dont think you need that many questoners it seeemed like half the people from cnn asked questions and last time all the hosts from nbc and msnbc. The you tube debate is still the best one.

Wolf Blitzkrieg is a waste of a perfectly good suit that could be stuffed with a journalist — not a dog named after a snowstorm. I found his debate was a chance to instigate fights without substance; and the clear Clinton-bias of the crowd was obvious; and the clear Clinton-bias of CNN’s post-debate wrap-up was equally bias: they had three former Clinton advisers discuss the debate, yet none of them were properly labeled.

The Clintons are a dominating machine, and they are shutting some great candidates out of the process, granted by their own fierce skills as campaigners, media manipulators, wheel-greasing machinists. Biden, Dodd, Edwards, even sometimes Obama have been sidelined in a one-woman show. It’s not democratic, especially, when the candidate would represent 16 collective years of Clinton, coming on the back of 12 collective years of Bushdom.

The media is too easily manipulated in this age of soundbites and 24-hour news. Its a bad time for us as a system.

Wolf was the guy who invented kitty whipped,
I seem to remember a show a few years ago that was called Roots..
Wolf plaid the part of “KUNTA KENTAY”
Got his foot cut off last night!!

Wolfe there are professionals and there are amateurs, you are neither, hang you head in shame.

HD | 11/17/2007, 4:31 am EST

Blitzer should jump off the sinking ship that is CNN and the rest of the corporate media and do something useful with his journalistic career.

I’m pro-Wolfman, nice guy, fair, straight-down-the-middle, courteous, thoughtful—I knew him when he cleaned up Dodge City.

Get off his back. It’s my last warning.

Douche? You don’t lend much credence to your criticism when you resort to name calling Tim. What you say may be true, but if your purpose was to shame Blitzer, you failed.

I’m no fan of his and know little of the criticisms leveled, but if your criticism’s strongest point is the comparison of two different statements, it is weak indeed. In the first quote you cited, he distanced himself from the term, attributing it to others. From all reports, the ‘debate’ was another example of ‘the way the game is played,’ and it is to be deplored and exposed, but don’t lower yourself in the process.

I came to RS this morning from Google News where I read about members of NYFD assailing Rudy, Musharrf playing the ‘nuclear card,’ Bonds being indicted, courts striking down challenges to the wiretapping laws and Britney not being allowed to drive with her kids and Wolf Blitzer is what I find?

You must have had a tough week. Take some time off for Thanksgiving with the family. Just open one of those multi-posts and we’ll bang away on it.

wolf blitzer is war happy – typical german…

spacemonkey | 11/17/2007, 11:20 am EST

The narrative is “Clinton wins the Presidency”. Dispute that or attempt to stop the inevitable and you will be thrown under the bus and are worse than a holocaust denier.

moondancer | 11/17/2007, 1:14 pm EST

I agree he(Blitzer) was terrible. I thought CNN as a whole did an awful job on the “debate”.
I think Blitzer is unwatchable, easily the worst anchor on TV.

Carolyn of Glenham, NY | 11/17/2007, 1:57 pm EST

I did not watch the debate, but I am partial to Wolf Blitzer. I especially like it when he does his little “Situation Room” dance, as he bops to the looping techno beat in the background. The man has a sense of humor.

Delta Wild Man | 11/17/2007, 3:12 pm EST

The news is out, and it’s all over the net.
The debate was about as real as professional wrestling..
Anyone want to talk about kid gloves?? Wolf was wearing silk gloves!!
One lady who asked a question was a plant from the state of Arkansas’s Democrat Party.
Another guy was on Clinton News Network a few weeks ago because he was an expert on muslims, why is he an expert?? He’s a muslim activist!
Oh, and a unbiased after debate show with Carvil??
Hell the panel had 2 former Clinton advisers on it.
And less we forget Hardball?? yep old Chris has never been partial to republicans..
Hay, expect the same from the republicans next week!!

Daniel Coleslaw | 11/17/2007, 3:53 pm EST

Don’t forget his blatant and deliberate ignorance of Dennis Kucinich. Wolfy spoke three times as much as Dennis. He probably thinks he’d make a better president.

Eric Ferguson | 11/18/2007, 12:28 am EST

Among the many outrgeous parts ofthat debate, one I learned of only afterward. One of the moderators, Campbell Brown, is married to a staff member of the Romney campaign. I already knew John Roberts is the same Fox Wannabe who passed on the smears against Graeme Frost without checking them. This might explain why their questions sounded like GOP talking points. Would Republicans be so quiet about taking questions from the spouse of a Democratic campaign staffer? I apologize to Tim Russert, who I previously called the worst moderator ever.

Steve | 11/18/2007, 1:58 am EST

I don’t know who picked the audience but it was ridiculously stocked with Hillary supporters. A lot of the cheering for her and booing for her opponents seemed staged. Her answer for everything was “we have to sit down over coffee and talk these things out and form a committee.” Excuse me, shouldn’t you have a plan already? Then of course the second half of her speech is always demonizing GW Bush. Listen, we want to hear YOUR plan, not hear you just become a negative Bush basher. CNN seemed biased towards Hillary in this debate, big-time.

David... | 11/18/2007, 10:05 am EST

Wolf is a slick guy.

He’s a good representative of the ideals of the RNC and his employer, but not a legitimate truth-seeking journalist.

I’d watch my back if I worked with him.

Jed Clampett | 11/18/2007, 11:41 am EST

Who’s the parent company of CNN?

What other companies do they own?

How are they positioned economicaly if a global conflict broke out?

Be proactive rather than reactive. The fate of the world is in american’s hands. Whomever you elect will either lead the world away from conflict or lead us right into a war that could possibly involve just about everyone on the planet. Who else is sponsoring your favorite candidate?
Now that globalization is the norm for the economy of most countries, it would be very painful for all if the industriallized nations become involved in a war.

Delta Wild Man | 11/18/2007, 12:40 pm EST

David

Well?? Are you going to give us the punch line??

I, like, totally called it! | 11/18/2007, 3:17 pm EST

No wonder the crowd cheered the most inane responses. It was rigged:

bk | 11/18/2007, 11:27 pm EST

totally rigged. msm has lost all credibility, i just hope voters get the memo

Carl | 11/19/2007, 1:28 pm EST

Wolf Blitzer AND Tim Russert are both from Buffalo, NY! Coincidence? I think not!!! :^) Actually Mr. Russert was being scrupulously fair, and no one ever feels it’s necessary to mention that he used to work for both a Democratic New York Governor and a Democratic New York Senator, because he is honest and fair. Mr. Blitzer does not have that “tainted” background, yet definitely appears to protect Democrats, especially those in the Clinton sphere of influence. Oh, well.

DirtyDennis | 11/19/2007, 7:24 pm EST

Tim,

That was SO sneaky. But let’s call it subtle, clever and I tip my cap to you.

Peggy | 2/1/2008, 10:11 am EST

Dang. I was shocked at Blitzer’s “gallant” hosting of former president Clinton’s wife, as if the owner of — what was the name of Tony Soprano’s restaurant owner? — letting Carmela go on and on and on and on, holding the waiter off from “rudely” butting in to take her order.

Peggy | 2/1/2008, 10:17 am EST

I couldn’t believe Blitzer’s letting the ex-president’s wife run on and on and on and on as if he were Tony Soprano’s restauranteur motioning the waiter trying to take Carmela’s order not to interrupt.

Richard of Puerto Rico | 5/5/2008, 12:11 pm EST

The Wolf is definitelly bias towards Clinton, ever time Jack slams Clinton he cuts him short. Been the anchor there is little Cafferty can do. But he gets his way sometimes. Most all in CNN are bias towards Clinton, they dislike Obama, as much or more than Rev. Wright, though they love what he’s done to Obama, then again I wonder, no matter what Obama, clarifies, they keep pounding. Wolf, forget it Hillary cannot win, Obama, has it all, i.e., popular vote, pledge delegates, states won, time is in his favor as well as the numbers. So lay down somewhere and wait for someone to throw you a bone.
