Race Card Trumps Gender Card

11/2/07, 12:40 pm EST

Especially when one is classy enough not to play it:

“When we had a debate back in Iowa awhile back, we spent I think the first 15 minutes of the debate hitting me on various foreign policy issues. And I didn’t come out and say: ‘Look, I’m being hit on because I look different from the rest of the folks on the stage.’” — Barack Obama

The politics of victimhood are unpalatable. Even when people have made overtly racist attacks on Obama — Rush Limbaugh sang a song, don’t forget, Barack the Magic Negro, and Mitt Romney has tried to make Barack’s name mash up with Osama bin Laden’s — Obama never once said, ‘The Man is out to get me.’ Indeed, his candidacy is so revolutionary because he’s not running as a black candidate, he’s a candidate who happens to be black.

In contrast, Hillary Clinton is now suggesting that the “boy’s club” is ganging up on her, or rather, “piling on“. (You don’t have to have taken too many women’s studies classes to spot the veiled rape metaphor in there, do you?)

Are we really to believe that attacks Clinton drew in the debate Tuesday night had something to do with her gender — rather than her hawkishness toward Iran (with which she vowed not to prevent a war, but prevent a “rush to war”), her unwillingness to reveal the scope of her policy influence in the Clinton White House, or her seemingly reflexive inability to give a yes or no answer? To say nothing about her 20-plus point lead in the polls?

Clinton must have polling that says this kind of victimhood works for her. But I think she’s underestimating the value of the higher ground of grace and class she’s just yielded to Obama.

Big mistake on Hillary’s part. If she would have come out and said they are piling on me because I’m ahead in the polls and I have a better message than they do, I think she would have won some respect from people. This “oh woe is me, these mean men are picking on me” garbage makes her look weak and whiny. I know she is trying to soften her image, but come on.

Being both an African American and a woman, I am quite capable of identifing a victim appeal. I think Hillary was out of line to pull that one. Barak has done an outstanding job of standing on his own and not his race. Frankly there are a lot of Black folk that are angry at him BECAUSE he is not playing victim like they are used to.

Frankly, I wanted to support Hillary because I wanted to see a woman in the White House. I couldn’t justify it to my mind however, if she just continues the same path that we are on. She says that she is against George Bush, but her postures seem remarkably the same.

Barak is the best choice period. Not because he is a man, black, or a lawyer. It is because he makes sense.

Brian Siegel | 11/2/2007, 10:16 pm EST

Are Liberals stupid or just plain liars? “Barack the Magic Negro” song was a parady od an article written by a black columnist at the LA Times who referred to Obama as ‘Barack the Magic Negro.’ Rush was playing a parady of the righteous leftists who would normally scream at anybody else who dared to use language like that. But again, why deal with the facts. When you’re Liberal, just make something up…….

DirtyDennis | 11/3/2007, 8:34 am EST

B&F,

Barack MAY be doing an outstanding job, I don’t watch things that closely. But in this thread, he was playing the race card big as life. I have no problem with that and I have no problem with Hillary playing the woman card. This is politics. Some ‘themes’ play in Toledo, some don’t. If you don’t use every card in your hand, then you probably don’t really want to win.

Marlenus | 11/3/2007, 10:13 am EST

Reading no further than “Rush Limbaugh sang a song, don’t forget, Barack the Magic Negro,…” shows you don’t either have the facts or you choose to ignore the facts. Sure doesn’t take long to spot a liberal blog….

Coach | 11/3/2007, 10:42 am EST

Siegel: Liberals aren’t even given the CHANCE to use langauage like that against conservatives because there AREN’T any in that party. It’s all white. But, I’m sure you know that.

Another good call on the ‘liberals are all stupid’ comment. Do you even know what a liberal is? Or do you just relate it to homos/whiners/tree huggers?????

Bender | 11/3/2007, 11:24 am EST

Marlenus: You know who else hates liberals? The confederates. You know who else? The KKK. You know who else? The Minutemen. You know who else? Nevermind. I think I’m setting the trend for you…….

I think the Obama, Osama, Odamma, remark started with Ted Kennedy..
If Mitt Romney did do that line about ” Obama, Osams, ” thing, I don’t think it had any racial intentions, on the contrary,, I think is was Mitt’s feable attempt to make fun of our ” RETARDED SENATOR FROM MASS “..
If Mr. Romney would have been blessed to be born and raised in the south, Mitt would have known better than to make fun of a retarded person like Ted Kennedy.
When people like Ted Kennedy say things like ” Osama,,, Obama,,,” when talking about Barrack Obama, we must all realize,, Ted Kennedy can’t help himself,, And not a one of us should ever make fun of this poor soul..
Is it not enough, that Senator Ted Kennedy now wear his shoe’s on the proper feet,, and his shirts are worn with the pockets on the outside..
It was not that long ago that Senator Kennedy wore his shoe’s on the wrong feet and showed up to senate hearing wearing his shirts on inside out..
I think we should give credit where credit is due,, and we should all honor Senator Kennedy on his limited,, but important acheivment of putting the right shoe on the right foot,, and the left shoe on the left foot, and even more important,,, wearing his shirt with the breast pocket on the outside!!

If Barack Obama had gone to a black college after the Iowa debate and said something about the ‘all-white club’ piling on him then he would have been playing the race card in exactly the same way Hillary Clinton has played the gender card in this instance.

But he did not do that. Too bad she doesn’t have that kind of class and integrity.

Delta Wild Man -

Did you know that the RETARDED SENATOR FROM MASS has a dog named – get this – Splash.

Word | 11/3/2007, 9:21 pm EST

So obviously none of the conservatives here would whine if a democrat “accidentally” refered to Rudi Giuliani as: HITLER.

Am I correct?

Word | 11/3/2007, 9:23 pm EST

And if they were the only two choices I’d honestly vote for Saddam above Hitler. But that’s just me.

I know conservatives have a special noose out there just for the Jews…

DirtyDennis | 11/4/2007, 9:38 am EST

Word,

Welcome back and touche on the Hitler reference. Hypocrites.

Somewhere In the Middle | 11/5/2007, 1:26 pm EST

Bender, you know who was Exalted Cyclops of his chapter of the KKK? Dem Senator Robert Byrd. You know who else hates conservatives? Richard Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church. There is a lunatic fringe on both sides of the party lines.
Mr. Siegel, I applaud your reseearch into the parody, but painting all liberals with such broad strokes is as unfair as Bender’s comments.
Delta Wild Man, I don’t think it’s fair to call Senator Kennedy a retard as that is insulting to retarded people all over the world. He is only retarded because the drink killed the majority of his brain cells in much the same way he allowed poor Mary Jo Kopechne to drown in the car he crashed, while he planned how to cover his ass.
Word, “I know conservatives have a special noose out there for Jews.” I don’t even know where to begin with that other than you must have been wearing your ass as a hat when you wrote it.

Delta Wild Man | 11/6/2007, 5:47 pm EST

Somewhere in the Middle

Alright,, I stand corrected..
But I must insist that Senator Ted Kennedy has a self inflicted mental disorder..

Somewhere In the Middle | 11/6/2007, 7:23 pm EST

I could not agree with you more Delta Wild Man. I think alcohol abuse certainly qualifies as a self-inflicted mental disorder. Too bad that it was poor Mary Jo that didn’t make it out of the car in ‘69.
