Q So he [Attorney General nominee Mike Mukasey] wrote this letter to the 10 Democrats who sit on the Judiciary Committee, and he said, “waterboarding, as it’s been described to him, is repugnant.” And I’m just wondering, in your view, can something be repugnant but also legal?
MS. PERINO: Look, as I said, I’m not going to comment on any techniques, I’m not going to comment on any of it. That was his personal view, and the senators, if they want to ask him more questions about that, should confirm him and then they’d have the opportunity to do so.

This kind of action is NOT what America stands for. Torture is torture. Why in the hell are we arguing about “degrees” of torture?
How did we ever allow ourselves to get into this position?

I’d never read these press briefings before, but they’re something. Given that it’s a Whitehouse site, I wouldn’t be surprised to learn they’re cleaned up, although that would hardly pass inspection.
I love this one, “If this position is so important, in part, in terms of national security, why didn’t President Bush ask the former Attorney General to stay in office until the confirmation of his successor, as most other Cabinet officers have done?”
Maybe the Whitehouse press corps aren’t the weenies I thought. I guess it’s the MSM who don’t pass on some of these exchanges. Like yesterday, Perino said that other countries are faced with the same lead poisoning dangers as the U.S. That’s sure NOT what I read elsewhere. They forbid lead in the paint. Period.
Tim, you should post that link every day just as a starting point. I wager there’ll always be SOMETHING we can argue about.

yessir, there’s alot more going on that we aren’t really told about even though we have news channels whose sole purpose is to inform the public… or is it mold the public? Hard to tell anymore huh? but when I see the same dumbed down news reports being repeated over and over in the same 30 minute or hour long loop, you tend to realize that going indepth on a story is not these guys forte.

How about MSM’s obsession with putting out the latest ‘poll’ about the Presidential candidates??
I don’t think I’ve EVER given a crap about any single presidential poll ever given except the one that’s actually tallying votes…….then I get disappointed when those votes are thrown in the trash in favor of the electoral votes.
OFF TOPIC OBSERVATION:
After 6.5 years of Shrub/Weed/Seedling/Pesci, we have an absolutely chaotic middle east and record gas prices nationwide. Did we expect anything different when he won the lottery, I mean, Presidency? And, hard to believe, but there’s about 25% of the country who are OK with all that……..weird, isn’t it?

As far as this topic about waterboarding, etc….
Honestly, isn’t locking a person in a room, all alone, all the time, isn’t THAT torture? It’s ALL torture, we’re just trying to sneak all this past the American people. Hell, look how we react when Americans are just HELD, let alone tortured. So, let’s all be realistic here. First of all, does it work? Probably, sometimes. But, sometimes it doesn’t……….

Coach,
If this is really a democracy then the experience of “torture” must be one that has been agreed upon by a majority of the public.
Therefore the public must be subject to all kinds of treatment in order to determine which of those constitute “torture” and which don’t.
So, until we subject Bush’s daughters to the harshest waterboarding techniqes, we won’t know whether we are torturing or not.
I say: “Bring on Jenna and Barbara!” And televise their tests on Fox too!
