First his mega PR firm was representing union busters. Now comes news that top Hillary adviser Mark Penn and his firm are helping smooth the feathers ruffled by trigger happy mercenaries at Blackwater. Whoa!

More proof that Hillary’s not who she’s pretending to be.

A first tier presidential candidate that is completely full of lies? What are the odds?
Seriously, all you have to do is look to the serious candidates that get the least amount of air time on MSM to see who is the least full of lies. Unless there is a huge wave of public interest pushing in another direction, the only candidates you will ever hear about are the ones who have the same interests as the ones in charge of showing you their faces.

The political parties in this country suck almost as much as the corporations who control them.
It’s funny people still think we live in a democracy.

13th grade: You, my friend, are exactly, fundamentally, correct.
It’s a freakin’ joke how much our ‘elected leaders’ cave in to industry.
We DON’T live in a democracy. Ever since the electoral college was instituted (for the betterment of the plantation owners), democracy disappeared.

Boys, boys, boys,
By the 13th grade you should have learned there has been NO democracy since Greece. We are a republic. Please tell me you know the difference. Because I know you do.
This is much ado about nothing. If this was/is the worst thing facing our ‘republic’ then we’re in fine shape. We’re all separated by six degrees from mass murderers. Once we start calibrating how many degrees a particular candidate is separated from something which me abhor, then we’re on that slippery slope to anarchy.
Please point out which laws are being violated.

What proof? So far, we only see pinions.

I’ll give you that although I have a feeling the meaning of democracy has undergone a ’subtle’ change in the last 200 years to bring it in line with current ideology. But that’s a gotcha for sure. I believe that it was TR who began calling us a democracy, fodder for another time.
I meant which laws has Hillary broken? She’s in a tough spot, but I think she should hang in there with Penn, at least based on what I know of the situation. Libs are always being beat up for being weenies (we often are), she needs to show she can take the heat and stand her ground. We don’t want someone in the White House who’s facing one way whilst their toes are pointing in the opposite. If she caves on this, she’ll be mince meat if she gets the nomination.
Perhaps that’s what you want, but being an unrepentant Lib, I don’t want our ‘guy’ carrying self-imposed baggage. The Right can attack her for her association with someone associated with Blackwater, but then they’d be setting themselves against their own constituency.
I for one am disgusted with EVERYTHING this country is doing in Iraq. ‘Private Security Firms,’ aka mercenaries, are just a way to circumvent the commitment of more troops AND tacit admission that we’re not in control. Their presence makes the whole surge ‘philosophy’ a joke.
And to make them less accountable then our own soldiers insults everyone

For what it’s worth: ‘democratic republic’ is the term that I was repeatedly bludgeoned with in civics classes in middle school and high school.
DirtyDennis | 10/7/2007, 10:43 am EST
Ole,
I’m sure in your youthful exuberance you questioned how that differed from an ‘ordinary’ republic, only to be ostracized as a trouble maker.

No, my government teacher was very liberal. He imparted a strong knack for questioning authority on me and was later ousted for denouncing our school’s proposal to implement random drug-testing. Just as much a hero in my estimation as any 9/11-firefighter.
DirtyDennis | 10/7/2007, 2:56 pm EST
Any 9/11 firefighter? A hero? Your standards are a tad lower than mine. Those are professionals paid very good money to do a job. No doubt some heroic acts were performed that day, but to classify ALL as heros lessens the value of the term. I suppose Rudy was a hero too ’cause he did his job.
DirtyDennis | 10/7/2007, 3:26 pm EST
Yummy,
Iraq says $15K isn’t enough for the family of the VP guard shot and killed (and never prosecuted) by a Blackwater employee. Let’s play ‘How High Will They Go?” Now that this little tidbit has seen the light of day, watch all the candidates jump on board. I’m going to set the bar at a conservative $175K.

I’m not going to parse the hero definition with you. I am not sure who is and who isn’t a hero, I suppose it’s a very subjective thing and only has meaning to the person making the judgement. I don’t think being a firefighter either qualifies or disqualifies one for being dubbed heroic. It probably requires a significant amount of bravery, making the realization that your occupation might lead to life-threatenning circumstances. Certainly, though, the occupation puts one in a position to act heroically. Putting oneself in danger for the sake of saving someone else’s life definitely qualifies as heroic in my opinion – regardless of compensation. Does this include the entire NYFD or NYPD on 11 September 2001? I don’t know.
republicans are terrorists | 10/7/2007, 10:14 pm EST
The definition of a hero is anyone who has never voted republican.

Chris Matthews has this story today. How come it took them so long?
