Campaign ‘08: Exclusive Video by Matt Taibbi — On the Road With Fred Thompson

10/2/07, 9:51 am EST

Last month, Rolling Stone’s Matt Taibbi hit the campaign trail with Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson and watched the now-B-list character actor in action. Check out this video with Taibbi’s narration for more on Thompson’s fantasy world, where all you have to do to be president is pretend you’re the Gipper and act tough on TV.

Nobody wants to see Estallment #2 of Taibbi’s attempts at crossing over.

Why isn’t there anything about all the BS about Blackwater coming out. How the taxpayers are paying for 30K mercenaries who’ve seen too many Rambo movies.

Will the disgrace for this country EVER end. I think we know how.

Nice take Matt…Thompson has painstakingly focus-grouped what America wants in a candidate. The problem is, beyond the glittering generalizations that his character promises, there is the same cadre of Bush-presidency advisors and rejects hoping to bring us the same failed policies of the previous administration. Unfortunately, red pickup trucks and folksy homilies aren’t enough to cover up the fact that he’s the new “great white hope” of those who do not represent the interests of the American people, but represent the select few who see the presidency as an opportunity to gain even more profit from a few well-placed political connections.

taibbi? gosh….lol…lol!!
we definitely don’t need a weatherman to see which way the wind blows!!

there’s a weird gestalt to mr. taibbi’s approach (call it writing if you will). political writers, or those who portend to be, should stay out of the way of their own stories.

For DirtyDennis–Actually, the dead-tree version of RS had an in-depth article on Blackwater, et. al several months ago. I guess if it doesn’t happen on the interwbs or on TV, it doesn’t really happen.

Ed,

It DOES happen on the internet. I read about it all the time. Have been for over a year. Which is why I want to see it posted HERE, so it can be discussed. It’s a significant aspect of what’s happening in Iraq. More germaine than Taibbi’s stuff.

Hey, Dirty Dennis, don’t you realize that We Must Know Why Britney Spears didn’t lost custody of the kids and what she’s doing now!

Our Nation will come unglued if we can’t focus on Britney, Paris and, WhatEver.

Blackwater needs to remain a dirty little secret with No Consequence to what damage they have caused, how much money taxpayers have shelled out for another Bush/Cheney brainstorm to create more chaos and misunderstanding in Iraq and wherever the Goon Squad shows up…

What’s a few more lives here and there?

“The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight” needs some hard investigation and the American people need comprehensive Explanation!Wha Happened?

Some more friends of GWB? Maybe it’s Cheney’s kin-guns and bullets that “go astray”-bring back memories?

From the polls that “Pronounce Hillary the winner”(I don’t know that many Demos that are enamored of her or plan to vote for her).

Is the GOP telling Repubes to Pretend they’re “independents” and to “vote” for her or show up when polls are being taken?

We know the Repubes want Hillary to run(ala Kerry)but who is paying for and conducting the polls-is Terry McAwful that powerful?(One of her handlers).

Corporate Collusion does not a candidate make or you could end up in Republicanville and more of the same we have experienced the last seven years.

Diana is also getting too much press, when we have our “leaders” salivating for “War” with Iran($$$$), Limbaugh going ballistic, again(how does this dude keep his job?), the health care system on the edge of oblivion, the housing market in the toilet, Rove hibernating(planning political ’strategeries’ for the GOP in Sludge City), Murdoch trying to foul every candidate’s chances with his “Contributions”, California trying to tip it for conservatives(Ugh-that can’t happen)We Are Democratic and, not much focus on if and how Bush and his Ace team are initiating Discussion/Diplomacy with Iran to avoid another IRAQ-Hello…Please, no more Britney junk, Please…

The insult to the black community that the TOP Republican Four did a No-Show at the debate…Talk about whimps. Not much coverage there.

Who’s doing the fires in senate restrooms? No, it’s not an attempt to keep Craig and others out-it’s ladies rooms…

I actually enjoyed Taibbi’s report on Thompson and the “crowds” he attracts. Slice of Americana-cool.

REAL NEWS, PLEASE!

I would still vote for the crazy guy over Thompson. At least he’s honest.
