What’s the point? They still got the money and spent it somewhere else.

Does that mean a state can request funding for a particular item, be granted the funding, spend it somewhere else and then return in the future and ask for the original funding?

I think this stinks more now than before.

Ketchikan’s a tourist town. Just slap a toll tax on all the Republicans touring the Inland Passage and they’ll have their ‘bridge’ in no time. By the by, what in the HELL is wrong with a ferry?

Here’s a good sidebar to this thread:
Taxpayers routinely get screwed by an apathetic government. But, do politicians EVER get screwed? No, I’m not talking about Larry Craig, et al.
Examples of taxpayers getting screwed:
collapsing bridges, gas prices, insurance cost, lax mortgage oversight, gas prices, debris removal after a hurricane, health costs.

Coach,

Example of politicians being screwed: being voted out of office. However, I’m not so sure that holds up to the ’screwed standard’ you established.

How about, investigative reporter turns up shading dealings?

Jed Clampett | 9/24/2007, 5:28 pm EST

that’s not being screwed, that’s the natural order of things when people realize how baddly they are being reamed. Screwed would be if they vociferously decry the illegal aliens in our country only to learn their own lawn maintenance workers are illegal. Or Impeachment, now that is a serious screwing to a politician.

Coach-

Sen David Vitter, R-La, gets screwed all the time….but I don’t know if that counts, cuz he pays for it. (or, I guess we do, as he still seems to be on the payroll.

Of course if Ketchikan really wants that bridge, they should go ahead and build it, and just sent the bill to Bill Allen at Veco Oil Services. He’s admitted to paying off a bunch of Alaska state officials, and says he paid for doubling the size of Sen Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, vacation home with an over 2000 sq ft addition.

I’m sure he’d be happy to finance a lil ol bridge for the good folks in Ketchikan.

I wonder if anyone has asked the Pbles of Ketchikan if they want an airport. Hell, they probably do. It’d be the longest stretch of paved road around and they could spend their weekends driving over it.
