Sidebar involving same topic: I, recently, responded to an article in the Weekly Standard, the communist rag supported by Iraq invasion architect William Kristol. In an email response to my post on their website, I was told to keep my comments in line with the author’s theme and theory. Hmmm. Fascism is alive!!!!

C Co... aka I Smell Propaganda | 7/27/2007, 4:10 pm EST

So is it Communism or Fascism? The “communist rag” supported the Iraq invasion architect? But it’s fascist? Or do you know the difference?

P.S. If you think that’s Fascism, I suggest studying up on some of the activies during the late 30s-early 40s Europe. Pretty sure the two are even close.

Merkwurdigliebe | 7/27/2007, 4:33 pm EST

dont use facts my dear boy, for nothing gets an angry liberal speaking in breathless hyperbole even angrier than contradictory, thus irrelevant, facts

your point is noted–people today wouldnt know real fascism if it sat on their face and “kristallnachted” their house

but withold judgement until all the facts are in

Fride at the Steak | 7/27/2007, 4:36 pm EST

So…………does that mean that the ‘rag’ can’t be BOTH?

keep pushing you oppressive mindless thugs. Just keep pushing. Keep it up and you will see just how patriotic us dissenters really are.

Unfortunately, I think the ACLU is a little bit busy these days, what with a president who’s bent on turning the United States into a dictatorship. Hell, after the next terrorist attack there may not be an ACLU anymore — or a National Affairs Daily, for that matter.

Word | 7/27/2007, 9:34 pm EST

Hell, the people who flew this flag could probably be described as Bush supporters, the way Bush has turned the U.S. constitution upside down.

Miers gets out of a congressional subpoena because of executive privilege? Unconstitutional. Yet Bush supports it. Gonzales utterly lies on the stand before congress about violating the fourth amendment. Unconstitutional twice. Yet the cons simply march on.

Am I the first in saying conservatives aren’t really Americans?

I Got You Bender.... | 7/28/2007, 10:53 pm EST

Hey Merkwurdigliebe,
While your philosophy-teacher sounding statement sounds legitimate, what about the reason for the protest? When are these reasons going to be addressed? It sounds as if you’re throwing ALL protests in the same bucket. I, for one, believe a protest about a war is more legitimate than a ceo protesting a rise in taxable income.
And, Gonzalez DID lie when he said on the record that he hadn’t had a meeting with his chief of staff about which attorneys to fire.
I agree with the overreach of power regarding the flag. Isn’t it funny about these issues? We seem to hear about all of them, don’t we. Maybe, just maybe, if they weren’t televised, written about, and youtubed to death, they would go away. What we DON’T hear enough of, for instance, is the amount of church fondling…..Just For Instance

Merkwurdigliebe,

I noticed you had nothing to say about Bush’s use of “executive privilege” in keeping Miers from testifying. Partisan.

As for Gonzales, the man’s testimony was directly contradicted by FBI director Robert Mueller and former deputy attorney general James Comey. He’s lying and I’d bet a bunch of money on it. Would you bet he’s not? I thought you wouldn’t. Con.

Merkwurdigliebe | 7/29/2007, 11:27 pm EST

what about it? last i checked, the president has the power or executive privilege, and congress has the power to call his bs

in any case…who gives a crap? its just another opportunity for old white men to blather away whilst government careens into the ground…is it any wonder bush and the congress are about equally reviled? Wheres the end to pork that was promised me?

but to be fair, while it seems gonzales contradicted hismself with muller, but muller himself has kept mum…for good reason–as long as gonzales’ ass is in the fire, why risk his own neck? both of them have murkied the water enough to allow them to escape purgery charges

btw, whats with your hatred for all things conservative? did rush limbaugh diddle you in your formative years or something? you sound about as nuts as some righties did during boy clinton’s years…ahh, the more things change, the more they stay the same i suppose

yep, i do really agree to C Co… aka I Smell Propaganda when he says that lovely U.S., is turning somehow in a soft-dictatorship and it’s similiar to nazi-germany …trust me, i Am from the country which invent the evil…..

hanging the flag upside down should never be considered defacement. naval regulations state that it is a “recognised sign of desporation” an sos, any good boy scout would know that. so in theory they could be charged with insiting panic if fire and ems came to the rescue.

Hallzee | 7/30/2007, 3:24 pm EST

The ACLU cherry picks which cases the want to fight.

Word | 7/31/2007, 11:12 pm EST

Gonzales is Mueller’s Boss you idiot. Mueller is risking his own neck by contradicting him. As Carlos Mencia says: DEE DE DEEEEE!

What’s with all hatred of things conservative? Oh nothing. Except conservatives lied about starting the war in Iraq, lost it, blamed the opposition for being unpatriotic and then funded groups associated with Al Qaeda, are losing the war in Afghanistan, let Osama Bin Laden go because they paid Afghan warlords to do the work the U.S. military was supposed to do, whore for votes among a population who actively wants Armageddon…y’know… just all the problems from the last 6 years.

And executive privilege has nothing on congress’ oversight powers. Executive privilege is what all the cons were screaming against when Clinton was using it to keep people from testifying about Monica. Difference is… no one died over Monica. Over 3000 U.S. troops’ lives have been lost to Bush’s lies.

And Rush didn’t diddle anything. He was probably too high off Oxycontin and blaming black people for being addicted to drugs to do anything to me. He was too busy trying to frame the maid for purchasing drugs illegally. What guts. Gee you cons follow such great roll models!

Dr. Ralph | 8/1/2007, 4:38 pm EST

Well of course they had to be arrested… they had a damn Ron Paul for president sign too! Libs and Cons hate that threat to the status quo.
