Paul Patrol! Paul Patrol!

Reader Cory makes sense of Ron Paul’s platform to dismantle federal government.

Cory | 7/17/2007, 12:46 pm EST

I think the point is missed in Paul’s objections to various government departments. Aside from the IRS, a department created via the 16th amendment, all other departments are not created or specified in the Constitution.

Obvious to point out that at the time of creation, the Constitution would not see the need for Dept of Homeland Security (as the militia would serve that purpose), the Dept of Education, etc.

Unfortunately, the separation of Federalist and Republic (e.g.: state’s rights) has been lost on the American population. The advocating of dissolving various departments is NOT necessarily an argument against the function they presumably provide, or are supposed to. The argument is against the central and federal “one-size-fits-all” approach to problem domains….

Let the states, communities, and collectives determine the appropriate and meaningful manner in which these functions should be tailored and applied…

In the end, please actually read the constitution (Article X and Article V), the real text of the amendments, and the full Declaration of Independence. Perhaps follow it up with some Federalist papers research. Then come make your point.

Thank you for this post. We should applaud “Reader Cory” for reminding all of us–yes, even us in the Paul Patrol–to do what ought to be done: read the constitution. Even with our (that is, the Patrol’s) esteem for Dr. Paul’s positions, we should always check him–verily I say, even unto his beliefs regarding abortion and education–against the Constitution, which all federal employees swear to uphold.

Mr. Dickinson, may you and your children live long and prosperous lives.

Good to see Dickinson give some attention to something sane-sounding, after his ridiculous comments about Ron Paul’s policies being “wacky”.

Still I don’t think it’s enough for me to ever take Dickinson seriously as a political journalist any time soon.

tim, how awesome of you to post this. thanks for putting up with all us “angry americans” :)

Hey Tim I think your point about FEMA/Katrina was lost on many here. You might want to elaborate on how FEMA, despite being a federal agency, was in fact largely privatized.

I’m in a patrol for supporting Dr. Paul? Since when? Why doesn’t anyone tell me these things!

C Co... aka I Smell Propaganda | 7/19/2007, 5:15 pm EST

Funny how the libertarians of the Ron Paul nation can come up with such intelligent, common sense arguments, while the angry uber-liberals or the RS nation (it’s not all your fault, Tim) spew the same misguided, unintelligent rhetoric as always. Methinks moderates have it more right that anyone. Where are their blogs?

How is it self deluded to admire Libertarians and Moderates when you call me a Conservative?

Looks like you walked right into that one, you hate driven excuse for a Liberal.

ray | 7/20/2007, 11:49 pm EST

i like the zeal Paul supporters have for their candidate. The support theyre getting him in some Democratic areas and Conservative areas is comendable.

DAWN OF THE AMERICAN REFORMATION, AND END OF THE ERA OF THE UGLY AMERICAN
This Ron Paul Libertarian rebellion is an escalation and re-orientation of the American Cultural War, by the American People, against the rising governmental tyranny by Neoconservative Republicans and Leftist Democrats.
It is sweeping across America like a wildfire – ignited by the illegal and unnecessary invasion of Iraq. It raises many crucial questions, such as:
Where does the American Constitution give my government the right to sacrifice precious American wealth and blood, in interests of domestic and foreign lobbies?
Where does the American Constitution give my government the right to allow my nation to be invaded and permanently occupied by illegal aliens?
Where does the American Constitution give my government the right to support the sacrificial killing of children, by their own mothers?
Where does the American Constitution give my government the right to discriminate against traditional religious practices in public schools, universities, marriage institutions, armed forces, and governmental offices?
This creeping governmental tyranny, driven by perverse special interests, has now been going on for so many decades, like the illegal alien invasion, that the impending American Reformation is regarded with fear and loathing, by those who are to lose their illicit gains.
Like Gandhi, Ron Paul is drawing his intrepid volunteers from the full spectrum of humanity; and World is cheering him on to victory.
