Impeach Vice President Cheney?

7/6/07, 1:10 pm EST

In a new poll by the American Research Group, a majority of Americans — including 51% of independents and 17% of Republicans (!) — said yes.

Is it time to impeach Dick Cheney?

Judging from those numbers I’m a bit baffled Democrats haven’t made a serious (i.e. : non-Kucinich-led) stab at it already.

Odd that there is a question about our chances to win the war in iraq, considering there is nothing of the sort, it’s an occupation. This would be good to remember because that’s what we are doing: Occupying a sovereign nation.

mikie | 7/6/2007, 2:26 pm EST

I like the saying, “You can’t win a war, just like you can’t win a hurricane!” Which, funny thing, was actually said before the Katrina thing.
I think the pollsters are finding smarter folks to ask…
Olbermann’s rant the other day was dead-on, resignation is the patriotic thing to do.

stamen rushmore | 7/6/2007, 2:32 pm EST

The honorable thing would be for Cheney to get a sword. And fall on it.

Dallas | 7/6/2007, 3:02 pm EST

There is no honor left for Cheney. Kick the bastard out!

It’s a ’slam dunk’. I sure wish we could vote on punishment for this (these) guy(s). Saddam hung for his crimes. These guys will get libraries named after them. And, aircraft carriers. And, ironically, maybe even cemeteries! Whatever you may think of the U.S. and their philanthropic ‘liberation’ efforts in Iraq, the fact is this: It’s an occupation. Period. They didn’t ask for us to go in there. The U.N. didn’t ask for us to go in there. They weren’t invading anyone. And, they hadn’t bombed anyone. Think what you may, but all of those statement are facts………so, what do you think OTHER people think about us?

C U in Hell | 7/6/2007, 4:35 pm EST

I say do it. Now is the perfect time. The country is probably still a little too ambivalent about a Bush impeachment, but Cheney? Hell, everybody hates that fat, arrogant, mumbling prick. Get rid of him and then watch Bush ride out the end of his second term in ignominy.

Puremuny | 7/6/2007, 5:36 pm EST

It was time back in the Nixon days when Executive Power failed then. How can you respect a “military icon” who has been declassified 6-7 times?

Dr. Ralph | 7/6/2007, 7:45 pm EST

Not a bad idea, really. Impeach the heart attack riddled billionaire and bring in some fresh meat. Let him deride Bush and the big oil agenda and bingo! Here’s your key to the White House, hope you enjoy your stay…

jli from georgia | 7/6/2007, 10:32 pm EST

hell yes impeach cheney

Speaker Pelosi, shouldnt be to hasty and build a good case thru the commitees, dont blow it by being shrill.

Steve Sidran | 7/7/2007, 4:45 am EST

Democrats haven’t gotten serious yet because they are spineless, and worry about strategy and debate things to death. Meanwhile, nobody takes action.
But House Resolution 333 is quite serious. And its not ‘led’ by Kucinich – it was merely introduced by him, and he stepped aside. It is gaining momentum by itself, with 14 Democrats backing it, and more each week.

Congress has a moral and constitutional obligation to impeach. This administration is mocking us, and the Libby pardon should have permanantly ended the debates and strategizing.

Call your representative and respectfully ask them to back this bill – the future of democracy depends on it.

Dr. Ralph | 7/7/2007, 10:28 am EST

Fred for new VP…Hell yes, I love it when a plan comes together!

C Co... aka I Smell Propaganda | 7/8/2007, 9:37 pm EST

Impeaching Cheney (which can’t happen by the way; a crime must come before a punishment) wouldn’t change anything. All such an action would do is show hatred on the part of liberals and take time, money, and attention off of issues that actually need to be looked at. Exactly how have Republicans and Democrats attacking each other served the country better over the last 10 years? Considering Congress has a lower approval rating than Bush, should we impeach Pelosi too? You can’t just impeach someone whose policies you disagree with.

BritishGuy | 7/9/2007, 4:40 am EST

Not sure Bush would let it happen Cheney knows where the bodys are buried

mike | 7/9/2007, 2:22 pm EST

We all know Cheney should be impeached but will not. I have a better idea HR 334 “demanding Cheneys suicide”. Anyone want to sign this one

Hallzee | 7/9/2007, 4:19 pm EST

Go ahead and try to Impeach him. You got nothing on Cheney.

I want the Dolphins to win a Super Bowl. Doesn’t mean it’s going to happen.

Pelosi won’t push for impeachment of either Bush or Cheney because she is useless, and like the rest of the wimp Dems, are afraid to make a move on anything that they promised they would in the 06′ elections. The Dems always talk a big game and then hide when it is time to act!

Jed Clampett | 7/9/2007, 10:08 pm EST

Let’s see, the VP’s oath to the nation is to protect the constitution, not circumvent it, reinterpret it, s*it on it and then laugh about it.

To begin with, you must admit that his willful circumvention of the FISA court constitutes a crime, no?
Then you have, with support of a Republican heavy congress, the ignoring of foreign treaties and laws as well as passing laws that reinterpret the Constitution in ways that are ‘imaginative’ at best, most likely in contravention of said document.
Filling the Supreme Court with ‘activist judges’ bent on overturning decades of precedent. What did he do to O’Connor to get her to quit I wonder. I’ve never read a more curt, short and to the point resignation letter by such a high gov official. That doesn’t happen when it’s an amiable end to an illustrious career.
And probably the most ‘trivial’ (?), shooting a guy in the face and then leaving the scene as well as avoiding the investigating officer ’till he sobered up might be considered a crime in most states, I know that here in Texas it is for those with an income below a certain threshold. ;-)
If you pay attention to the patterns… the secrecy, the arrogance, the ‘creative interpretations’ of written laws and looking for ways to circumvent the written laws and the spirit of the laws, you may notice that a criminal enterprise has a hold of our highest halls of power at a time when we need strength instead of bullying, intelligence instead of ‘Heck of a Job’ and most of all, the ability to listen to the experts that have studied the issues for decades and can provide good advice, contrary to what seems to be the case, their greedy well placed friends in all industries writing laws that protect bussinesses and crap on regular people.

Realize it people, this political system is completely broken, corrupted, usurped by ’special interests’ and the 1% with the 80% of the wealth. We have to take private money completely out of public policy. A two party system is alot easier to corrupt than a democratic multiparty system.
Most of all, the group must be removed ASAP to prevent them from making a run on the treasury as well as perhaps involving us in another invasion/occupation b4 their term expires. We have to grab the documents now before they are passed through Dick’s man sized shredder in his office. I’m sure the shredding has already begun.

Save us Hilary | 7/10/2007, 1:33 am EST

Impeach all Republicans since only the Dems are pure of heart and only Dems really care about how they want to pass more laws to help us to live our lives.

Yay Caring and Good Intentions!

Boo Evil and Rich People (except actors, rock stars and journalists!

Viva black and white, simple minded hippie rhetoric!

Fride at the Steak | 7/10/2007, 4:15 pm EST

Hallzee? Got nothing on Cheney? Wake up dude. Just because you’re okay with bombing a sovereign nation in the name of “terrorism” doesn’t mean that it’s not a crime. Falsifying documents to justify an invasion is a high crime. Period.

Let Them Eat Cake | 7/11/2007, 3:14 am EST

The poll you are quoting is in stark contrast to the polls cited on CNN today.

The “Gallup Poll” claims No one wants Bush impeached-supposedly 61% “think he shouldn’t be impeached and they did not even show any polls on Cheney…

Beware of polls in conjuction with the cable media-Gallup, USA Today are very Pro-Neo-Con.

Bottom line-who is conducting the poll, where are they getting their pollees and, how are their questions worded and the agenda of the pollster.

Lots of poll “stats” that don’t support independent poll figures.

Lots of games being played.

Hillary “ahead in the Democratic candidate polls” doesn’t gel with Obama’s popularity and Edwards is being skewered by the news media-like Dean in ‘04.

Very Suspect.

Time to turn DC upside-down and shake. New rule: Politicians and lawyers are not allowed to be president or vice-president!
