- South African legislature — well acquainted with issues of discrimination — approves same sex marriage. Across most of the continent, homosexuality itself is rarely legal.
- Fox News Competitor? Al-Jazeera English — watchdog group Accuracy in the Media calls it “terror television” — set to broadcast internationally into over 80 million homes. Virtually no US satellite or cable TV companies will offer it — until its profitable.
- Across Congress, no issue is set to experience a Democrat-led overhaul of policy like Global Warming — the current head of the Environment and Public Works Committee calls it a “hoax.” When Californian Sen. Barbara Boxer replaces him, her top priority will be “a very long process of extensive hearings” on the issue.

When people start making money by saving the planet, environmentalism will no longer be an issue, it will be the way we live.

“Fox News Competitor?”
Come on Tim. Don’t you mean CNN and MSNBC Competitor? CNN is Al-Jazeera West. Videos of US Marines being killed? And MSNBC’s Keith Olberman might as well be wearing a black hood and carrying an AK47. Nice try Tim.
You just better hope that Al-Jazeera doesn’t come out with a magazine to rival Rolling Stone.

Once again you beat me to it Hallzee. Right on. I wonder how many RS writers have objectively watched a full episode of the O’Reily Factor in their lives anyway.

You don’t watch Fox News.
The OJ Special is on the Fox Network channel, which has nothing to do with the news station.
Dick Chenney has only been on the O’Reily Factor once, six years ago.
Finially, Fox hires an equal number of Conservatives, Liberals, and Independents.
You are drunk on the SP cool-aid Cake.

Fox News does not report news. They report opinions. They listen to the AP wire, they’ll flash real news on thier little “ticker” thing, and then cherry pick pieces of irrelevant yet emotional shit to grab the attention of middle America in thier prime time slots. Hell, they cite the New York Times whenever they can if the information will get them more viewers.
I watch Fox News just to learn how to market to people. Because it’s obvious even O’Reilly doesn’t believe some of the shit he spews (the war on Christmas? Bullshit. He’s just trying to appeal to a certain demographic so they keep watching his boring ass show).
What they do, and I commend them for it, is take information most people wouldn’t or shouldn’t give a shit about, and then whip them into a frezy over it. It’s not reporting news, it’s selling you a reason to get angry about something. And it makes you about as smart as if you studied nothing but cable commercials all day. In other words: dum.
That is unless you want to go into marketing…
Word | 11/16/2006, 10:02 pm EST
Heh, have you ever been whipped into a “frezy”? pretty crazy shit.

I was whipped to a frazzle by two long-stemmed beauties bearing implements of pain and humiliation. Does that count?

Re: Global Warming,
I try to be open-minded. When someone uses the argument that you can’t prove global warming is a direct result of carbon emissions and NOT a natural phenomenon, I have to agree, they’ve got a point. But when you consider we’re dumping tons of that shit into the atmosphere every day, I also think maybe, just maybe, we should error on the side of caution. And when some REALLY smart folks say it IS our carbon emissions, I have to take them seriously.
I confess, I have NEVER had an occasion to think of a word to describe killing your descendents. I went out to onelook.com and did a wildcard for *cide. There’s a bunch. A remarkable number of references to different genocides currently underway, but nothing I could see that would indicate killing your descendents. I guess nobody every thought of that one before.
“I have met the enemy and it is us.”
Jed Clampett | 11/18/2006, 5:09 am EST
A little worse than killing descendants, killing the only living planet capable of sustaining our lifeforms.
What do you think it’s doing to the planet to take out so many millions of barrels of a thick, dense liquid from the depths of earth’s crust and turning it into a toxic gas at the rate of tons per day? Are they back filling those empty holes with something? I would suggest sewage, it’s what they took out in the first place.
Dennis, was terracide one of those -cide’s?
DirtyDennis | 11/19/2006, 7:41 am EST
Jed,
Couldn’t find it. Googled it. There has to be a word for it. There’s a word for everything else. Too bad there’s not a ‘reverse’ dictionary where you put in what you think and it gives you a word.
Capitalist Pig | 11/19/2006, 8:28 pm EST
I wonder how many scientist who disagree with the theory of man made global warming will be invited to testify before Barbara Boxer’s committee? The last time the dems held hearings on the matter, back in the early 1990’s, they only invited those who shared thier beliefs. So much for the search for the truth.
