“Republicans Would Rather Keep You Scared Than Keep You Safe”

8/18/06, 2:06 pm EST

“Republicans would rather keep you scared than keep you safe.”

That’s it.

That’s all we should be hearing from Democratic candidates, right now, as the GOP wages its slanderous Swift-Boat worthy campaign to paint Democratic victories as victories for al Qaeda.

But, of course, that would take coordination, or leadership, or party discipline or one of those many other qualities that seem to escape the party at the moment…

The Democratic party has nothing to hide from in its record fighting terror.

Meanwhile it’s the GOP led Congress and the War President who received all those D’s and F’s from the 9/11 Commission, it’s the Republican leadership that has identified more terror targets in Indiana than New York City or California, it’s the Department of Homeland Security that couldn’t protect the citizens of New Orleans from a strike by WMD — weather of mass destruction — despite nearly a week of advance warning.

The one thing the Republican party does seem skilled at however is playing the fear card, making Amercians believe that they’re the only ones committed to the nation’s safety and that Democratic rule will mean death for your children.

Forget that ports are unprotected and still do not have the detection equipment needed to guard against the import of nuclear materials, that chemical company lobbyists win out over your kids when it comes to safeguarding the transport and storage of chlorine and other toxics that could be transformed into chemical weapons with a well placed bomb, that the a far greater threat than Iran’s nuclear ambitions are those thousands of loose nukes the administration has failed to secure in former Soviet states, or that, oh yeah, Osama bin Laden is still at large.
But watch out for those Democrats. They’ll kill you.

“But watch out for those Democrats. They’ll kill you.”

Wow, Tim. You finally got something right.

Raoul Duke | 8/18/2006, 4:16 pm EST

Its sad all the oppurtunity the Democrats had to bury the hapless power mongers of the Republican Party but couldnt develop any unity…or more importantly a spine.

Cyrus Emerson | 8/18/2006, 4:30 pm EST

I wish the Democrats would take a strong stance in finding Osama bin Laden. If they did that they could dispel the cut and run calls and turn the attention of the war on terror against the man who started it all.

But what am I thinking . . . Democrats making a stand for something?

justin | 8/18/2006, 6:27 pm EST

Yeah, America is fucked.

Hallzee | 8/18/2006, 6:35 pm EST

Tim your the best at stirring up a good debate.

Go ahead, don’t listen to the GOP and fear not the threat of terror. But if something tragic happens don’t say you weren’t warned. After all, the Left believes these fear causing terror threats are all made up to win votes, so what do you have to be scared of?

Homeland Security has plenty of holes that need filled but but what ever GOP tries to do to fill them, all they get is resistance from the Left. Meanwhile, all the Democrats do is point out those holes to the world while the Terrorists watch CNN and MSNBC to figure out how they can take advantage of these situations. (Terrorists don’t watch FOX NEWS). Yet the Dems never come up with any answers or game plans. “We need to move in another direction” is not a plan. How do we move in another direction? That is the question that even the Dems can’t agree on.

And quit blaming Homeland Security for not protecting New Orleans from Katrina even though they had two weeks to prepare. Those “VICTIMS” had two weeks to get the Hell out of town and they, along with their crack-head mayor chose not to evacuate.

Cyrus,
The Democrats had their chance at getting Bin Laden and failed to do so when they had him dead in their sights. That is the way the Dems work. Ask questions first, second, third and fourth. And if that doesn’t work ask more questions. And Cyrus, Bush didn’t start these wars, he is trying to finish them. These people have been fighting for thousands of years.

Cyrus Emerson | 8/18/2006, 7:39 pm EST

Hallzee

Well, let me clarify, I meant the man who started the War of Terror, Osama bin Laden. He is the man behind the 9/11 attacks.

And what do you mean the Dems had their chance when they had him in their sights. Are you talking about George Tennet the ex-Director of the CIA who was working for George W. Bush?

Besides, the hunt for Osama bin Laden is not over. America can still bring this man to justice in a court of law. I’d like to see the ground forces moved out of Iraq with more emphasis on intelligence gathering. We can always use our air power to strike anytime anywhere, but our troops on the ground are sitting ducks. There would be fewer casualties, and more being done to find Al Qaeda cells, and terrorist masterminds using our Special Forces, the CIA, and the FBI.

Hallzee | 8/18/2006, 8:47 pm EST

Cyrus,

I like your style. I have so many people bash Bush, I just assumed that you meant Bush started the War.

And George Tennet also worked for Bill Clinton befoare he worked for Bush. And yes they had their chance to capture him and chose not to because Clinton called it a “Hot Potato”

C Co... aka I Smell Propaganda | 8/18/2006, 10:46 pm EST

Wrong Tim. I want, and I’m sure the majority of America wants, a Democrat who has a stance and a plan. I want someone to address the important issues (terrorism, the economy, border control, stem cell research, etc.) with an ACTUAL OPINION AND STANCE. I want someone who as a plan for national defense other than “Bush is terrible/Bush sucked/Bush lied”. I can’t believe people would want to vote for someone whose whole stance is “Bush was wrong/Republicans would rather keep you scared than keep you safe”. That would be the worst disaster than any other President in history. You have to have a plan! You have to have a stance! Just saying “Bush was wrong” isn’t going to cut it! You liberals don’t get that you need ALTERNATIVE IDEAS! You left wing extremists may be content with a representative whose political stance is “Republicans are bad” but most Americans want to vote for someone with actual ideas and a stategy to address the nations problems. This is single greatest fault of Democrats trying to get elected: they don’t have original ideas that can be made into reality. Blaming Bush for everything is not a political stance! Democrats need to realize this or they will continue to lose by the hands of American people who are only asking for a good alternative. Saying “Republicans would rather keep you scared than keep you safe” is the worst political platform to take. You have to go further than that.

Of all the things Tim has spewed in his blog, I can think of no worse thing than this right here. Not only is he wrong, but following the mentality he speaks of will be more of a detriment to HIS OWN PARTY than anything else. Stupidity.

C Co... aka I Smell Propaganda | 8/18/2006, 10:48 pm EST

By the way: Liberals would rather critize Bush than come up with their own plan.

And this is why you guys can’t win. Take it from someone whose seen both sides.

Hallzee | 8/19/2006, 12:37 am EST

And yet, Gore and Company would never try to scare us with the threat of Global Warming.

You can bet if the terrorist get ahold of a nuke, the Globe will warm up real quick!

OOOOEEEEWowWowWow-

“The Boys Are Back In Town”.

They just got back from haulin that hay and, and pilin that manure on in heaps…

You can tell when the Repubes are in trouble-they begin to sound psycho….

Whiney, idiotic tantrums that, “It was Clinton’s fault” that Bush and his bunglers were asleep at the wheel(of his u-haul) when 9/11 happened.

Bush and goobers have repeated the same Brilliant performance with Katrina and are still doing the Blame Game to try and take the focus off the real person and party who messed up-these idiots still can’t take responsibility for there screw-ups….

And to “Halzee”-he/she(?) is one of those “compassionate republicans” who can’t seem to let Georgie- boy be a “Man”…

Thousands are still unaccounted for post Katrina and these Repube posters can’t connect the dots or add two and two….

Do you understand F—— Failure? You got one, for your “leader”(GWB).

There is no excuse for a corrupt Regime to ignore getting to victims before a week almost passed, many of those stranded were the elderly, children, those who were disabled/ill -people without cars or much money to finance a trip anywhere…(Must be hard for some of these Repubes to imagine).

Maybe Hallzee needs to spend some time figuring that one out or walk in the Katrina victims’ shoes.

….Typical Republican “Royalty” full of hot air rhetoric and no political performance to back it up except failure…..

But here’s consolation for yee, as long as your nitwit stays in office, you may get to experience some of the same conditions you take so lightly…..(Let’s give a redneck howl or boohoo if that should happen)…..

These Repubes are workin it-apologies and excuses for sell to the terminally naive and stupid…

Get Over, it guys-Bush gets an “F” in runnin a country but maybe he can be trusted with cookin up some pork grits……Not anything else…

Other than that, Bush’s Royal Pain Reign is full of manure…….

KJB

The death and disaster odd squad (Bush and his pals) are the ones who will kill us-God knows, they have set records doing it…

Let Them Eat Cake | 8/19/2006, 4:39 am EST

Find a leader with a plan and the intelligence to carry it out without victimizing countries that have not threatened……

“Oh, what a tangled web we weave when we practice to deceive”.

Just for you, George and handlers.

KJB | 8/19/2006, 8:50 pm EST

Let them eat cake,

The fact that you don’t see any threat in Iraq is what makes you, and the vote you cast, very scary.

Jeff | 8/20/2006, 4:12 pm EST

Republican Motto should be: In Fear We Trust (that we are able to get re-elected).

h | 8/20/2006, 4:53 pm EST

KJB,

of course there is a threat in Iraq, of course there is a threat in Iran. have you ever cared to watch a television news breefing in Iran. It compares america to Nazis and conditions their populace for a world war. this is because every time they describe America, they show on the tele the same footage of George Bush Jr. that we see on fox news, and only people like you would not understand how this does not help to back up their conditioning. obviously you havent been paying much attention to the war, or you’d notice that every time Bush Jr says how safe a certain city is, that city instantly becomes the target of the insurgency. they hate us and they hate him. your answer is to kill them, and so is Bush’s, which is exactly why those people are alowed to go on being conditioned, because they know that when they wake up, they have no food or water to eat and drink, unlike you, they have no home, their children will stave, just like them. these are resources we could provide them without blinking an eye, but, you see, not doing so keeps the prices up, and that keeps profits up. it’s the simplest theory of supply and demand.
btw, why aren’t you enlisted. go enlist. stop waisting your time on a liberal forum, you arent going to proove anything. go to Iraq, kill the threat, they are already weaker than you, because even when the military feeds you rotten food to skim on halliburton profits, just know that their food is even worse, and less, which makes them slower, easier targets. sounds like a wet dream, doesn’t it? just you and an m16. go get em cowboy, go kill those indians.

KJB | 8/20/2006, 8:02 pm EST

h,

“your answer is to kill them…”

Nowhere, in any of my remarks, did I suggest this is the solution.

The only viable solution is to replace any of the radical leaderships (think Hamas, Hezbollah) in the middle east. they need to be exiled to a neutral area, maybe like Tunisia (like Arafat).

Only then can a more moderate Palestinian leadership lead the Palestinian people to a peaceful existence.

The Palestinian leadership does not want, peace, though. They were given a generous offer in 2000 @ Camp David, in the presence of Bill Clinton himself. They rejected the offer, made no counter-offer, and then issued the 2nd intifada….resulting in terrorist attacks TO THIS DAY.

The problem with the

Andy | 8/21/2006, 11:57 am EST

So, Tim Dickinson, I suppose there really AREN’T millions of muslims out there who want to kill us? Its all a fear-mongering conspiracy. Please. F**king moron…

Remember when Rolling Stone used to be respectable?

Tim you outroved rove. Well done.

BSL, Esq.

Jack D | 8/22/2006, 2:33 pm EST

Andy,
Actually there are probably only a few thousand that would want to do anything like that. 10,000 outside max.The rest are just pissed that we’re over there blowin their shit up, and causing that few thousand to also blow Iraqi shit up trying to get to our forces. And yes, the republicans are using the threat to their advantage. They are politicans, it’s what they do. The Dems would do the same shit if they were in a position to do so.

Let Them Eat Cake | 8/23/2006, 4:54 am EST

Bush apologists, “adapt”, “stay the course” and rush over to grab your weapon and finish the war, that you so badly want to make into a cause rather than face the reality of it….

Dream on……

How many more lives need to be sacrificed for a war that was groundless and a means to make profits for an inept “president” and his chimps?…..

The biggest danger to the lives of Americans is Bush and his banana administration.

Mike A | 8/23/2006, 6:10 pm EST

The real deal with all of this is to just live your own life to the best way that you can and not live in fear of getting blown up, or melted by global warming. The fear based way our society is, causes alot more deaths, than the actual things to be scared of.Fear causes stress, stress give people heart disease, road rage and domestic desputes in families.Im not saying not to care, if you really want to make diffence:vote, become a scientist or run for office. At the end of the day you dont really know when your going to kick the bucket but when you do at least know the life that you lived was a good one.
