Gay Marriage and the Military

From reader ‘C-Dawg’ responding to my post, The Idiocy of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’

I’m gay and I’m in the military. I prefer to keep my professional life and my private life separate; therefore DADT doesn’t really bother me too bad. There are co-workers who know about me, but I don’t live in constant fear of getting kicked out. I choose who knows about me and who doesn’t. If I had a problem keeping it in my pants, then I shouldn’t be in the military at all, regardless of sexual orientation. The only major drawback is the inability to marry someone of the same gender, thereby attaining benefits for my dependent(s), a higher housing allowance, and family separation pay when I deploy. Kinda sucks.
