Alberto Gonzales: Human Constitution Shredder

1/19/07, 1:24 pm EST

Our sitting attorney general is the living embodiment of that old phrase “the banality of evil.” The smirky twerp of an AG is quietly trying to set back 800 years of of Anglo-Saxon and American legal tradition.
Check out this exchange about our constitutional right of habeas corpus, which is an inheritance from the Magna Carta of 1215.

But as far as Gonzales is concerned, everyone’s been misreading the Constitution since its ratification in 1789:

“There is no expressed grant of habeas in the Constitution; there’s a prohibition against taking it away,” Gonzales said.

Gonzales’s remark left Specter, the committee’s ranking Republican, stammering.

“Wait a minute,” Specter interjected. “The Constitution says you can’t take it away except in case of rebellion or invasion. Doesn’t that mean you have the right of habeas corpus unless there’s a rebellion or invasion?”

Gonzales continued, “The Constitution doesn’t say every individual in the United States or citizen is hereby granted or assured the right of habeas corpus. It doesn’t say that.”

What an asshole Gonzales is.

One of the worst human beings to ever hold that office. I didn’t think it would be possible to be worse than Meese or the clown Gonzales replaced but boy was I wrong.

Gonzales needs to be removed from office and yes congress has that authority.

Jed Clampett | 1/19/2007, 2:49 pm EST

His oath of office is to uphold and protect the constitution. He has definately broken that oath by way of his reinterpretation and deceitful usurpation of that document and all America stands for.

A prison term should be what he gets, not fired. This is a dangerous individual that should be prevented from even practicing law in the future.

Jed Clampett | 1/19/2007, 9:37 pm EST

man, I just read the link that Tim’s article points too.

I remember watching when they were debating the bill on C-SPAN, I knew some of the provision and language on there the Democrats were trying to clarify or change was very dangerous, I didn’t quite realize just how dangerous the language was. Of course they were out voted. Now I understand why.

How many times must a Party collectively act undemocratically before it is banned from the system?
When do the american people realize they are being railroaded and react in order to banish these kind of people from their political system?

The founding fathers gave us the right to bear arms not to go hunting or protect against criminals. That right was given so that the people could protect themselves from a tyrannical government. I suggest you go arm yourselves, it may not be long from now that we’ll need them.

Gonzales is a liar and a sleezeball….right out of Gilbert and Sullivan.
He must be removed and reprimanded.

CGEffect | 1/20/2007, 1:11 am EST

What will it take to wipe that smirk off of Gonzalez’s face? I’d really like to know.

Jed Clampett | 1/20/2007, 2:12 am EST

a hail of bullets?

Kitty Hunt | 1/20/2007, 2:03 pm EST

To stop Gonzales we need to impeach him. Impeaching Bush would be very difficult, and might result in Cheney in the commander in chief spot, but to impeach all his ‘enablers’ Gonzales one of the chief of these, would hamper his efforts at undermining our constitutional rights; next: Condi.

thomas | 1/20/2007, 2:20 pm EST

I hear Spandau prison is available. Gonzales would fit in very nicely there.

Let Them Eat Cake | 1/21/2007, 11:30 pm EST

There is more than enought evidence to impeach the current “President” because if Gonzales is impeached, and we have the same “President” and Co-President of Vice-Cheney, they will just appoint another idiot who will follow orders-even if it means slashing away more at the Constitution(ignoring it)like Gonzales has….

With the current Criminals in office, our country is in Danger…

Mr Drysdale | 1/23/2007, 6:09 am EST

Hey Jed, why dont you and the rest of the critters head down to the cement pond and burn a flag or something… your ignorance of the law (especially constutional law) is AWSOME!!! keep sipping on Grannys special med’s. Lib’s like you just assure another 8 years of a Republican president! Thanks Stupid!!!!

Friedm of T Jefferson | 1/23/2007, 12:20 pm EST

The answer is so simple. We grab Alberto, hold him without charges in a secret prison, waterboard him until he agrees with OUR interpretation of the Constitution and then monitor every email and phone call he makes to assure against backsliding. According to him, it’s all perfectly legal.

Jed Clampett | 1/23/2007, 12:58 pm EST

Agreed!!

If those laws should be used on anyone, they should be used on the lawmakers that impose them on us.
Time to start tapping some congresspeoples phones to see what links they have to industry and lobbyists. Should they not lead by example?

Let Them Eat Cake | 3/14/2007, 1:29 am EST

It seems like the worst of the Bush Batch, stick like Glue to their “Appointments”/”Positions”…

Now, as of 3/13/07, Gonzales has been Busy doing the President’s bidding on firing the eight D.A.S
who were not Active enough in going after Democratic opponents to indict…(No matter that there was no reason or evidence)…

How are these Criminals Still in place? That’s the mystery of the past seven years…

This guy couldn’t be more of a Bush “Yes” man than anyone of the unqualified goofballs Bush has appointed…

How to ignore and “Fix Up” the Constitution to make it Conform to Bush administration crimes…

We are in Sad Days that are going to Bleak…

Bush and his LawBreakers who wave the flag and shout about their “Patriotism”….Unreal…

Teleka | 3/15/2007, 2:43 pm EST

The American public is so stupid. Don’t you idiots know that Gonzales is only a pawn for President Bush? He has to do whatever the hell Bush/Cheney says or he loses his job. So he did his job, and now he’s being alienated and blamed as the sole source of all this crap. Come on people, don’t you know how politics works already? Gonzales did this so that he wouldn’t lose his job, and now he’s being alienated by the party and blamed for everything. Remember when Colin Powell had to be the messenger of bad news for the initial failings of finding “weapons of mass destruction”? Look guys, wake the hell up! Gonzales is only the messenger. He doesn’t have the authority to fire 8 attorney generals on his own initiative. DUH.
