Move Over, “Sectarian Violence”:
NBC Brands Iraq “A Civil War”

11/27/06, 1:47 pm EST

After the weekend’s horrific violence — which included Shiite militias dousing six Sunni civilians with kerosene and burning them alive — NBC News has taken the dramatic step of calling Iraq a “Civil War,” much to the chagrin of the White House.

Watch the announcement of the change here (MSNBC) and here (Matt Lauer).

It is a civil war by the same definition of war that radical Islamist groups use: That is one of blowing up random civilians and not actually having an army or following the R.O.E. For insistance, if Shiite militas exploded a car bomb in a Shunni civilian area, this would be considered an attack of war in their eyes, not murder. By this right, many terrorists are also at “war” with Israel, though there is no actual political declaration of such war. With that said, civil warfare is taking place, but labeling it as “civil war” might not be the most acturate description. In reality, it’s almost immposible to come up with a politically correct term, because the fighting that is taking place in Iraq is so far from being politically correct, that there is no basis to stand on.

Good point, I do think the Iraqis labeled it a civil war some time ago. What would we call it if Catholics attacked Pentecostals, Pentecostals responded by attacking both Catholics and Lutherans, and the conflict spread across our nation? Probably not murder, and probably not a domestic dispute—Harry smackin Sally around never aroused this much dissent. We’d—or the networks would—call it civil war.

This is absurd. While we split hairs over terminology, an entire fucking country is being destroyed — and our international reputation and domestic harmony along with it.

Being destroyed? Shit, it’s a bomb shell . . . the bomb already blew. There’s more murder, rape, and general destruction occurring now than under Saddam’s rule. I don’t think anyone should suffer under totalitarian rule, but our leaders are failing where Saddam succeeded.

Actually, I just read an article by Jonathan Chait, a senior editor for the New Republic, who offers reinstalling Saddam as a solution. We know we can control him, and we know he can control the people we can’t, why not?

C U in Hell | 11/28/2006, 8:54 am EST

Sure, and then whenever Bush’s approval ratings are down he can just drop a few bombs on some SAM sites or something.

Re-instating Saddam? That is fucking HILARIOUS! Seriously, on every level imaginable it would castrate W. If it could work it would just provide me with endless amusement.

But it’s unrealistic. The Shiites have been let out of their cages and not even Saddam can control them now. If Saddam showed his face in public he’d be gutted by the Shiite militias. That guy is fucked. He should just find peace in his fruit loops or whatever he eats for breakfast.

The u.s. needs to redirect it’s energies to dividing Iraq up and re-populating areas with Sunni, Shiite and Kurd respectively. Get these fucks away from each other.
