Vote Troubles?
Tell Us Your Tales of Woe

11/7/06, 3:02 am EST

Republican Rep. (Mean) Jean Schmidt tried to scan her ballot this morning — but (as you can see from this video) the machines at her precinct were on the fritz.

Talking Points Memo has begun assembling a most depressing litany of voting problems nationwide.

If you haven’t yet voted, jot down these election-protection hotline numbers:

1-866-OUR-VOTE (nationwide election protection)
1-888-DEM-VOTE (The DNC’s Voting Rights Institute hotline)
1-888-SAV-VOTE (Specifically for voting machines gone wild)

If you’ve already cast your ballot: Was there any trouble at your polling place?

Tell us about it in the comments below. (If you wouldn’t mind talking to a reporter, add your email address to your post.)

I had no problem voting. In Oregon, we vote by mail. I just drop off my ballot and hope to God that someone honest processes it accurately.

We should all vote with our gmail accounts.

in texas we have early voting. A computer was down so they were unable to scan my license, since I didn’t have my voter card, they couldn’t figure out what district I was on. Somehow, they were still able to use the voting machines to vote people that had their voter cards, with the stipulation that only one form was necessary. Had to return the next day with both voter card and license, in that instance the poll worker refused my voter card and demanded my license in order to scan it. She seemed upset that I opted for a paper ballot rather than the machines.
