Mexican singer-songwriter Ximena Sariñana came on the scene in 2008 with Mediocre, an album-length meditation on the idea of the "perfect" 1950s woman. Judging by this exclusive video for "Shine Down," off her second album Ximena Sariñana, she may be poised for a breakthrough in the United States. It's a catchy, complex tune -- the guitars have the nervous energy of the Strokes, the beat has the Latin indie-disco flavor of CSS and Sariñana sings in a way that is both understated and immediately engaging. It's an up-tempo track, but she's very good at selling the subtle melancholy in the song's chorus.
