Women Who Rock: Joss Stone
Soul singer professes her admiration for Aretha Franklin
August 31, 2012 8:00 AM
In this Women Who Rock video, English soul singer Joss Stone discusses her ongoing obsession with Aretha Franklin – an obsession that began in her early childhood.
"Aretha Franklin was one the first singers that I saw on television," says Stone. "She was the most amazing voice I’d ever heard. I was 10, I think. I had to go and get a pen and paper and write down her name."
Stone's newest album, The Soul Sessions, Vol. 2, was released in July, and revivifies tracks from bands as old as the Chi-Lites and as new as Broken Bells.
