Watch Carlos Santana and Rod Stewart Play Together for the First Time

The pair played "I'd Rather Go Blind" at Stewart's Las Vegas concert

Carlos Santana recently surprised the audience at a Rod Stewart concert in Las Vegas, when he came onstage to play the slow-burning blues song "I'd Rather Go Blind," which Stewart had recorded on 1972's Never a Dull Moment. The guitarist added soulful, trilly filigrees in between Stewart's verses. Although it didn't sound like it, it was the first time the musicians had ever played together, something that could happen a lot more often on the two rock icons' upcoming joint North American tour, which they've named "The Voice, the Guitar, the Songs." Dates for those shows are below.

In recent Santana news, the guitarist reunited with percussionist Marcus Malone, a band member of his group who, in recent years, became homeless. A television reporter was investigating an illegal dumping story and met Malone in the process and contacted Santana's management. In a video report, Malone told the guitarist, "You don't know how afraid I am to let you see me." Santana replied, "It's an honor to be in your presence." That same month, Santana was recognized at the Kennedy Center Honors.

Meanwhile, Stewart has been addressing rumors about a reunion with his ex-Faces bandmates. He told a radio interviewer that he and guitarist Ron Wood were "earmarking 2015" for performances. Keyboardist Ian McLagan later shot down those rumors, saying he was more keen to reunite the Small Faces, a precursor to the Stewart-fronted band. But by January, it seemed he was the only one who did not want to reunite with Stewart, as drummer Kenney Jones acknowledged he'd been in touch with the singer about the matter.
