With the shared goals of making good music and spreading the word of love, hip-hop producer/musician Terrace Martin and rapper Wiz Khalifa came together to work on a track for 3Chordfold, the former's all-star album which drops on August 13th. This behind-the-scenes clip shows how the collaboration went down in the studio, with plenty of weed-fueled commentary.
The project includes Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Lion, Problem, Musiq Soulchild, Khalifa and many others, and it is a synthesis of progressive jazz and hip-hop that Martin compares to Quincy Jones' Back on the Block and Dr. Dre's Chronic 2001. "Quincy Jones and Dr. Dre have paved the way for artists like me," said Martin – who has also worked with P. Diddy, DJ Quik and Bobby Valentino – in a statement. "3Chordfold definitely shows my growth and I strive to be considered among the ranks of the greats who have come before me. "
In advance of the album, Martin's first single, "No Wrong, No Right," which features Robert Glasper and James Fauntleroy, will be available on iTunes on July 30th.
