M.I.A. Glows in the Dark in 'Y.A.L.A.'
New clip for 'Matangi' song locks in on singer's face

M.I.A.'s new video for "Y.A.L.A." is your chance to get up close and personal with the singer: the clip stays locked in on her face amid a battery of lights and high-contrast, glow-in-the-dark colors. Directed by David Sannwald, the video is lighted and shot in such a way that M.I.A.'s eyelids and lips – which are shown in extreme close-up at the start – glow with a luminous sheen. The camera focuses in on her teeth midway through the song, and then later shows her face in shadowy blues that evoke the original Art Deco book jacket of The Great Gatsby.

'Matangi' and 25 More Albums You Need to Hear This Fall

The song, produced by the Partysquad, comes form M.I.A.'s latest album, Matangi, which came out earlier this month. The singer has been making the rounds, performing on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon and Conan, and opening a recent New York concert with a Skype session with Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.

The "Y.A.L.A." video was commissioned by the British fashion publication i-D (which Vice owns), in collaboration with the fashion line Kenzo.
