Linkin Park Unleash Apocalyptic New Track 'Wastelands'
Song comes from band's forthcoming new album, 'The Hunting Party'

Linkin Park dropped a new track from their forthcoming album, The Hunting Party on Sunday, offering the third release from the album in the form of a lyric video that drives home the dark vision of the song "Wasteland."

Inside Linkin Park's Heavy New Album: 'We Need to Weed Out the Emo'

The song seems to make good on the band's promise to return to a heavier sound on the band's sixth full-length album, which is due out on June 17th. "It needed to be visceral," rapper and multi-instrumentalist Mike Shinoda told Rolling Stone in an interview in April. "We need to weed out a lot of the soft, emo kind of approach to our music, and we need to weed out anything that feels aggressive for aggressive's sake. We're not 18-year-old kids making a loud record – we're 37-year-old adults making a loud record. And what makes a 37-year-old angry is different than what made us angry back in the day."

The Hunting Party features guest appearances from artists that Shinoda says were influential in developing Linkin Park's sound. Helmet vocalist-guitarist Page Hamilton sings on one track, while Tom Morello, System of a Down guitarist Daron Malakian and the rapper Rakim also make contributions.

Linkin Park is spending the first half of June playing a number of dates in Europe, including a show in St. Petersburg on Sunday. On August 8th, they'll kick off their 25-date North American Carnivores tour with 30 Seconds to Mars and AFI.
