Lady Gaga Writhes in New 'Applause' Clip
Singer emerges from a top hat and leads a troupe of dancers

Lady Gaga unleashed her new video for "Applause" today, and in typical Gaga fashion, it's a spectacle of flashing lights, vivid colors and intricate choreography. The popstar's wardrobe in the clip ranges from Bergman-esque hooded figures, to a nearly naked Gaga dancing in a bra shaped like hands shielding her breasts, to a nod to Botticelli in strategically placed seashells and little else. The singer emerges from a giant top hat, using bold eye shadow, free falling confetti and backup dancers writhing madly to enhance the drama of the video off her upcoming ARTPOP album.

Lady Gaga's Music Video Evolution

The video follows a chaotic week for Lady Gaga, who declared a "pop emergency" when she released audio for "Applause" a week early to combat leaks. She also posted a lyric video for the song last week, and also a strange clip of her enduring jeers while meanspirited sentiments flashed on the screen – pop cultural reverse psychology, perhaps. Then there was the budding feud with Perez Hilton, with whom Gaga traded barbs online.

ARTPOP is due on November 11th.
