Kid Ink's "No Miracles," off his major-label debut My Own Lane, is the Los Angeles-based rapper's response to haters who think he hasn't worked hard for success. In fact, since his 2010 debut Up and Away, he has released five mixtapes and recorded with 2 Chainz, Nipsey Hussle and Meek Mill.
"'No Miracles' is a lifestyle me and my team live by," Kid Ink tells Rolling Stone. "We didn't skip any steps to get to this point. Our movement wasn't like a shooting star exploding to the top quickly. It's all about hard work, sacrifice and determination. Over here, we stopped crossing our fingers to wait on a miracle to happen in order to succeed."
On the track, Kid Ink hits his message home with tight, no-frills delivery. In the first verse, he focuses on the positive aspects of his mantra, mentioning his dedication to the grind. On the second, he looks at the negative consequences; he mentions dropping out of school and having to brush off the haters. Rising rapper Machine Gun Kelly shows up for the third verse and, in his smoke-scarred cadence, barks, "I'm already dead!" Singer Elle Varner stitches the whole thing together with a moving R&B hook.
My Own Lane is out today on RCA/Tha Alumni Music Group/88 Classic.
