The sisters of Haim and A$AP Ferg tapped a whole bunch of friends — from Kesha to Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig — to come watch, and partake in, the insanity that ensues in the new video for their remix of Haim's "My Song 5."
Starring Saturday Night Live Vanessa Bayer as Dallas Murphy, the host of a Jerry Springer-esque daytime talk show, the clip is packed with a revolving door of on-air antics, from a woman who's terrified of cotton balls and another — the enigmatically named "Keiysha" — who's in love with her cat. Bassist Este Haim gets dragged into the chaos too when she confesses to Murphy and her boyfriend that she's got "a thing" for mimes.
A$AP Ferg shows up to deliver his verse, but also ends up getting his heart broken by his girlfriend and her new girlfriend. It's a revelation so jarring that crew honcho A$AP Rocky can't contain his shock and awe, but luckily the pain of such an earth-shattering revelation is only temporary — the trio put aside their differences aside in the name of love fairly quickly.
"My Song 5" initially appeared on Haim's breakout 2013 LP, Days Are Gone, and was an album anomaly thanks to its lurching beat. As the group told Rolling Stone, the song garnered them compliments from super-producer Timbaland, though as drummer Danielle Haim admitted, the track "is basically us ripping him off!"
The trio has been working on the follow-up to Days Are Gone, with singer and guitarist Alana Haim telling BBC 6 Music back in June that they were ready to enter the studio with new material: "This is the first time we’ve ever written on the road," she said. "We’re going home in a month to start recording. I promise record two won’t come in six years — it’ll come very soon."
