Over at TomPetty.com, Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell has been giving members of the Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Highway Companion club a look inside his guitar collection telling the stories of his six-strings in a 15-part documentary series called, simply, The Guitars. Now you can get an exclusive look at chapter 7, which finds Campbell continuing to chat about some of his prized Rickenbacker guitars, including a lap steel that was supposedly one of the first Rickenbackers ever built, as well as his prized '67 model, just like the one George Harrison played in A Hard Day's Night – plus that axe's surprising back story. "Something about that era of Rickenbackers, the mid-Sixties, sound different than the new ones, I don't know why," says Campbell. "Nothing makes the sound a Rick makes. It's the only thing that does that thing."
Also be sure to check out chapter six, where Campbell begins his journey down a Rickenbacker-paved Memory Lane.
