Elton John appears on ABC's 'Nashville' tonight.

Charles Esten is bummed out. The leading man on ABC's musical drama, Nashville wasn't on set the day Elton John filmed his cameo, and it seems he missed out on a once-in-a-lifetime performance when the cameras weren't rolling.

"I heard it was fantastic," he tells Rolling Stone Country. "I heard he gave an impromptu concert, sitting there at the piano on stage, consummate performer that he is."

John appears as himself on tonight's episode, singing a duet with Sam Palladio's character, "Gunnar." Esten is not shy about admitting a little jealousy.

"I'm trying not to hold it against Sam too much. It's gonna be a little prickly on tour," the actor-singer jokes of his castmate and travel mate on the international Nashville tour.

Tonight's Nashville episode will be followed by the series finale next week, as ABC brings its run of the show to an end. Producers are currently shopping around for other networks.
