Eleanor Friedberger Stakes Out 'My Own World' - Premiere

Fiery Furnaces co-founder works with stellar cast and crew

Fiery Furnaces co-founder Eleanor Friedberger opted for a humorous approach in the video for "My Own World," from her recent solo album, Personal Record. The clip, which features a typeface Wes Anderson would approve of, grows more absurd as it goes, with the protagonist drifting from her zany flute-playing therapist's couch to Friedberger's, who lets her crash until the pair start to get on each other's nerves. The clip's running joke: "The couch is yours!"

Eleanor Friedberger Picks Eight Favorite Songs

Friedberger enlisted a stellar cast and director for the project, including indie actress Kate Lyn Sheil (The Comedy), comedian, writer and actor Ted Travelstead and director Scott Jacobson, a former Daily Show writer currently with Bob's Burgers. His previous collaborations with the singer include the videos for "Stare at the Sun" and "Heaven."

"This is my fourth collaboration with Scott Jacobson, and we were lucky to have Ted and Kate act in it," Friedberger tells Rolling Stone. "Kate did an amazing job portraying the isolation expressed in the song and Ted provided the perfect comic relief. As always, Scott managed to lend a touch of humor and playfulness to an otherwise somber song that is essentially about the fear of interruption."

Friedberger is currently finishing up her Personal Record tour with three final shows in Boston, Portland, Maine, and Hamden, Connecticut.
