Deer Tick play gripping Nirvana set
Eric Helton, Matthew Murphy

Always markedly influenced by Nirvana, Providence, Rhode Island band Deer Tick has recently gone all in on their admiration for the grunge pioneers, playing special tribute sets under the name "Deervana." In this clip from day two of Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tenn., the band plays a searing version of "Scentless Apprentice" that induces multiple stage dives. It's followed by a cover of "About a Girl," made all the more faithful by John McCauley's raw vocals, which have clearly reached a breaking point.
