Elbow have been playing to massive crowds at British festivals for much of the past decade. "Coachella is very different from British festivals," says the group's frontman Guy Garvey. "Everybody drinks all the time –and with heat like this, with the free drinking laws, you'd have dozens of casualties in the first few hours."

Elbow last played Coachella nine years ago. "It was our guitarist's birthday," Garvey says. "We took him up in a hot air balloon and said, 'It's your birthday. What do you want to do next?' He said, 'Let's go and find Cameron Diaz.' We walked five meters and she walked past us and said hello. I said, 'What do you want to do now?'"
