Although the Civil Wars canceled a tour last year amid "internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition," the folk-rock duo has put aside any tension for a good cause, teaming with producer T Bone Burnett on the soundtrack to A Place at the Table. It's a new documentary that examines the role hunger plays in the lives of American families, 30 percent of which – more than 49 million people – don't know where they'll get their next meal.

Burnett and the Civil Wars recorded 14 new songs, some separately, for the soundtrack, including "Long Time Gone," a rambling, anthemic jam that drawls out its name for the chorus. The subject is grave, but the song flies high and triumphant.
A Place at the Table is set for release on March 1st, and the soundtrack is due February 26th. The Civil Wars and Burnett will donate the net profits and 100 percent of their royalties from the album to the Participant Foundation.
