Christopher Owens Talks About Going Solo on 'Lysandre'

Christopher Owens, former frontman and songwriter of the indie band Girls, released his debut solo album, Lysandre, in January. A new, acoustic version of the album will be available on the 20th of this month. This exclusive mini-documentary chronicles Owens' rehearsals and first performance of the songs on Lysandre at the Lodge in San Francisco; the show took place just days after he announced his plans to release a solo album.

In the video, Owens talks about what it was like to branch out on his own, what the album meant to him, the decision to leave Girls and the beauty of finally having a "home base" after traveling the world in his youth. "This album was a real attempt to do something very daring and very true to myself," Owens says. He also touches on the personal nature of the album, explaining that he wanted complete artistic control and that his split from Girls was necessary because the project "wouldn't have been a pure vision like it is now."
