Bruno Mars led a bittersweet, suitably retro tribute to the late Amy Winehouse at the 2011 VMAs, singing “Valerie,” her 2007 song with Mark Ronson, getting the audience to sing along. Beforehand, Russell Brand remembered Winehouse with eloquence, and Tony Bennett introduced footage of the studio session from his forthcoming duet with Winehouse, her last recording.
