Bruce Springsteen’s Lyrics Do the Talking in ‘Rocky Ground’

Rocker’s lament merits simple, affecting clip

The video for "Rocky Ground" – the track David Fricke aptly called a "sufferer's hymn" in his Rolling Stone review of Bruce Springsteen's latest record, Wrecking Ball – has a simple enough concept: shots of the song's lyrics being written out by hand, super-imposed over haunting images of deserted cityscapes. Mixed with the song's steady beat and soaring gospel chorus, and of course Springsteen's own pained howls, the clip never loses its power.
