Beyoncé's video for "Run the World (Girls)," the first single from her upcoming album 4, is the latest addition to the canon of dance pop videos with over-the-top apocalyptic imagery. In this clip, Beyoncé appears to be some kind of glam empress in a bombed-out Mad Max landscape in which girls have asserted their dominance over the world – or at least a bunch of dudes in riot gear – by dancing and whipping their hair around.
