R&B veteran Betty Wright ("Clean Up Woman") has a new album just out, Betty Wright: The Movie, backed by the Roots. This video montage, set to one of the album's many funky tracks, "In the Middle of the Game (Don't Change the Play)," finds the 57-year-old singer thoroughly enjoying herself as she poses for a photographer. "I have to remember to take my vitamins," she says of this comeback project. "When it happens for you today, it happens fast. Studio today, pictures tomorrow! That fast!"
In addition to the Roots, Lil Wayne and Snoop Dogg are among the admirers who make cameo appearances on the album. Wright is no stranger to hip hop – she was asked to sing at Tupac Shakur's funeral, and she has sung on tracks by Diddy and Eyrkah Badu. Still, Betty Wright: The Movie is stone soul, like only a master can bring it.
