The Avett Brothers stopped by Conan last night for a performance and dug into their catalog for "Murder in the City," a cut from their 2008 EP The Second Gleam. Harmonizing over a dimly lit stage, the band seemed quite at home on the intimate set.
Back in January, the group spoke to Rolling Stone about their upcoming Rick Rubin-produced album, hinting at a heavier direction. "It has an aggressive riff, and the instruments are very Nineties rock – what you could call grunge," said Seth Avett about the new track "Paul Newman Versus the Demons." "It's certainly a major departure."
