Screaming Females: "Wishing Well"

For close to a decade, post-punks Screaming Females have had fun subverting pop-song normalcy with unwieldy guitar solos, boorish riffing and glass-breaking vocals. Although they've hinted at restraint in the past, they've found the perfect balance of lush guitar textures and, for once, singing female Marissa Paternoster's quivering voice on "Wishing Well," as she works through the end of a relationship, lamenting how "the dial tone is your true love." The contrast makes her wailing chorus all the more powerful this time.
