“Look at Me Now”

Chris Brown feat. Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes | 2011

Chris Brown fortified his bad boy image and displayed his rap skills in 2011's "Look At Me Now." The singer rhymes about his "yellow" obsessions, "Yellow model chick/Yellow bottle sipping/ Yellow Lamborghini" before launching into lines about his genitals. "I knew that I was working on something for a Chris Brown record, but I thought it was for a mixtape... Then Busta Rhymes got on it and I was like, 'Okay, this is going to be a club record.' And then when Wayne got on it 'Look at Me Now' became a radio record. It just took off from there," producer Diplo said.

The Commodores | 1984

The year after soul legends Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson died, songwriter Dennis Lambert asked members of the Commodores to give him a tape of ideas. "And the one from Walter Orange has this wonderful bass line," said co-writer Franne Golde. "Plus the lyric, 'Marvin, he was a friend of mine' ... Within 10 minutes, we had decided it should be something like a modern R&B version of 'Rock 'n' Roll Heaven,' and I just said, 'Nightshift.'" This tribute to the recently deceased musicians was the band's only hit without Lionel Richie, who had left for a solo career.
