“Devil in a New Dress”

Kanye West | 2010
Rick Ross may be a hip-hop superstar on par with Kanye West, but even he felt some pressure when he was asked to contribute a verse to “Devil in a New Dress,” a track from West’s 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. "It was actually the last day before Kanye had to turn the record in,” recalled Ross, “and I think that pressure just made it that much more special to me. So I just sat there, approached the record openly and as straightforward as I could. When I laid the verse, 30 minutes later, I was extremely happy.”

“Madame George”

Van Morrison | 1968

One of the first stream-of-consciousness epics to make it onto a Van Morrison record, his drawn-out farewell to the eccentric "Madame George" lasted nearly 10 minutes, combining ingredients from folk, jazz and classical music. The character that gave the song its title provoked speculation that it was about a drag queen, though Morrison denied this in Rolling Stone. "If you see it as a male or a female or whatever, it's your trip," he remarked. "I see it as a ... a Swiss cheese sandwich. Something like that."
