The Art of the Record Review
A retrospective of the best illustrations from Rolling Stone's Reviews section
Rolling Stone's Reviews section has a long history of running original illustrations to accompany its album reviews. Now, the "Rolling Stone and the Art of the Record Review" exhibit at New York City's Society of Illustrators is showcasing over 80 works of art taken from the magazine. Running through October 22nd, the show highlights art dating from 1976 to the present. Music legends featured include the Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Whitney Houston, Neil Young and Nine Inch Nails.
In addition to the illustrations, the exhibit also features memorabilia on loan from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, including Sting’s hat from the Police’s 1983 Synchronicity tour and handwritten Janis Joplin lyrics.
